On December 11, Ms. PTD, a parent whose child studies at Nguyen Dinh Chieu Primary School (Ward 8, Ca Mau City, Ca Mau), reported to Thanh Nien reporter about the quality of her child's boarding meals.

According to Ms. D., during her time at school, her child lost 4 kg and often complained that "I can't eat the food at school". After finding out, Ms. D. couldn't help but feel sorry for her child's meals at school.

On December 11, the students' meal consisted of rice, taro soup with meat, and duck stewed in coconut water. However, each meal contained only 1 piece of duck meat, 2 small pieces of taro, and a large amount of soup.

Similar situations were reported in the previous days. On December 9, the meals consisted of chicken stir-fried with lemongrass and chayote soup with meat. On December 10, the meals consisted of fried eggs and pumpkin soup with shrimp. The images show that the food was very meager, making it difficult to ensure nutrition for the students.

Small portions due to uneven distribution

Regarding the above reflection, Mr. Nguyen Kim Hoi, Principal of Nguyen Dinh Chieu Primary School, said that the school has more than 800 boarding students, with a fee of 44,000 VND/day divided according to the People's Council resolution. Of which, 3,000 VND is for electricity, drinking water and domestic water; 8,000 VND for organizing activities, the remaining 33,000 VND is allocated for lunch and snacks.

Specifically, lunch costs 24,000 VND, snack costs 9,000 VND with the menu usually consisting of cakes, milk... The school signed a contract with Ca Mau Guest House, this unit has provided meals for the school for the past 7 years.

Meal on December 10 includes rice, pumpkin soup with shrimp and fried eggs.

When Thanh Nien reporters showed him photos of the lunch on December 11 and the previous days, Mr. Hoi admitted that there were indeed cases of uneven meals. This situation also happened on previous days.

"Each student is given a lunch tray. If there is a shortage of food, the service staff will supplement it. However, due to the large number of students, the distribution is sometimes uneven. The school has repeatedly reminded Ca Mau Guest House and invited this unit to work to fix it," said Mr. Hoi.

According to Mr. Hoi, the school received feedback from parents last week and has worked with Ca Mau Guest House, asking this unit to review the distribution of food and add staff if necessary. The most recent invitation to Ca Mau Guest House was on December 10.

"If this situation continues to occur frequently, the school will consider terminating the contract with Ca Mau Guest House," Mr. Hoi emphasized.

On the same day, Ms. Chau Anh, Deputy Director of Ca Mau Guest House, admitted that the uneven distribution of food portions was the fault of this unit, not related to the school. Ms. Chau Anh further explained that the photographer may have only taken the weak points, only showing one piece of meat, while the other meat underneath was not visible. However, when the school and parents complained, the unit would learn from the experience and commit to correcting the situation in the future.

Regarding the small number of meals, according to Ms. Chau Anh, the school requires a change in the menu every day of the week. At a time when prices are high, with the amount of 24,000 VND/meal, the unit must balance and supplement the food portions, with delicious meals and simpler meals.

Currently, Ca Mau Guest House provides boarding meals at the same time for 3 schools: Nguyen Dinh Chieu Primary School, Nguyen Tao Primary School and Nguyen Van Troi Primary School.
