The "ball" is on the side of Ukraine and the US, the Middle East is on the brink of a full-scale conflict

At a press conference following the BRICS Summit in Kazan, Russia, on October 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin made some comments on relations with the US, the situation in Ukraine and the Middle East.

Answering a reporter's question about the connection between the Kazan Declaration on regional and global stability and Russia's military campaign in Ukraine, Mr. Putin firmly stated: "I will start with Russia's security, because for me, this is the most important thing."

According to the leader, the Ukrainian side is avoiding dialogue and the Kiev government is not ready to negotiate because this means lifting martial law and holding presidential elections. Mr. Putin emphasized that "the ball is on their side".

Regarding the future of relations with the US after the presidential election in this country, Mr. Putin said that it will depend entirely on Washington's attitude.

"If they open up, we will open up too. And if they don't want to, that's fine too," the Russian leader said.

Regarding the situation in the Middle East, the Kremlin leader said that the region is on the brink of a full-scale conflict and Russia always seeks to contribute to stabilizing the situation there.

The Russian president noted: "The latest round of confrontation between Israel and Palestine has become one of the bloodiest clashes in a long series of clashes. But I want to emphasize that we have always opposed and continue to oppose any manifestations of terrorism."

Affirming the need to launch a comprehensive political process to resolve the issue in the Middle East, the leader stressed that resolving the issue must be achieved on the basis of recognized international principles.

In addition, Mr. Putin noted, Asia, Africa and Latin America need to take a greater role in the United Nations Security Council.
