Quang Ninh Dragons, sails, ocean waves and the sun are the images included in the design for the iconic project in Ha Long that is about to be built.
The plans have been designed in 3D and widely announced to listen to public opinion before organizing an official competition for the plans, Mr. Nguyen Quyet Tien, Secretary of the Ha Long City Party Committee, said on March 13.
The project is part of an urban planning project, planned to be located in the pedestrian bridge area near Ha Long Bay, at the intersection of Tran Hung Dao and Tran Quoc Nghien streets. The goal is to send a message to residents and tourists about the dynamic, modern Ha Long City, a natural wonder of the world, creating a new highlight for tourism.

Ha Long City is seeking opinions on four design options. Option one, "Boat and the Sea", is a stylized version of a boat with sails exploring the majestic landscape of Ha Long Bay. The project is expected to be over 24 meters high, 31 meters wide, with a graceful layout, creating a contrast with the small islands in the bay.
The sails are soft curves made of fiberglass concrete and steel frame structure, bringing a modern image, in harmony with the current situation, but not affecting the natural heritage. The sea waves are combined with curved stainless steel bars, covered with lighting cables, ensuring aesthetics during the day and highlights at night.

"Dawn on the Bay" is the name of the second design option, stylized in the shape of a circle of the sky, implying that Ha Long is a place where all elements converge to develop a modern city, a green city, the economic and tourism capital of Quang Ninh province in particular and Vietnam in general, wishing for a new day full of vitality, blending with the poetic scenery of the heritage bay.
This design consists of a stylized circular fiberglass steel frame concrete block, with a diameter of more than 17 m. The wave section is similar to option one.

Option three, called "Set sail", is a combination of options one and two, expressing strength, peace, and both stillness and movement.
The fourth option that has received the most attention is called "Ha Long Bay - the land of dragons". The project according to this design is 30 m high, 42 m wide, consisting of 5 dragons symbolizing the 5 continents together, growing and developing around the globe. The design includes a steel frame system combined with a LED lighting system and water fountains.

Ha Long City is the capital of Quang Ninh Province, an international tourist center with Ha Long Bay twice recognized by UNESCO as a world natural heritage. In 2023, Ha Long welcomed about 8.5 million visitors, with revenue reaching 18,700 billion VND.
