On the morning of December 4, in Phu Quoc City, Kien Giang Province, the Party Committee and Command of Naval Region 5 held the 2024 Military-Political Conference. The results of implementing tasks in 2024 have contributed positively and practically to firmly protecting the sovereignty of the sea and islands of the Fatherland.

The report presented at the Conference stated: In 2024, the Party Committee and Command of Naval Region 5 thoroughly grasped the situation and tasks, promoted democracy, enhanced responsibility, solidarity, creativity, led and directed the unit to successfully carry out assigned political tasks, with many tasks excellently completed such as: Training, combat readiness; exercises; defense diplomacy; patrolling, reconnaissance, and strictly managing assigned sea areas; organizing the transportation and reception of delegations inside and outside the military to visit and inspect islands in the Southwest sea, ensuring respect, affection, and absolute safety.
The region has done a good job of propagating the sea and islands, and combating illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing; effectively maintained the program "Vietnam Navy as a support for fishermen to go offshore and stick to the sea", the activity "Navy sponsors fishermen's children"; and carried out well the work of mass mobilization, search and rescue, prevention of natural disasters, fires and forest fires.

In 2024, the unit coordinated with local authorities and forces to promptly extinguish 7 fires in the stationed area; transported and provided nearly 1,000m3 of fresh water free of charge to people in drought and saltwater intrusion areas in Ca Mau province and fishermen in the Southwest sea; continued to support funding, books, school supplies and medical care for 3 children of fishermen with especially difficult family circumstances in the stationed area. Thereby, it contributed to strengthening the solidarity between the army and the people, building a solid "people's heart position" at sea.

During the year, the entire Region had no incidents of unsafe training or unsafe navigation; participation in competitions and sports events organized by superiors achieved many high results; the unit was internally united, with a unified will and action; officers and soldiers had steadfast political will, were assured of their work, and were ready to receive and complete assigned tasks well.

In 2025, the Party Committee and Command of Naval Region 5 will focus on leading and directing agencies and units to improve their capacity and quality of grasping, researching, forecasting and assessing the situation; proactively advising and proposing to the Service, the Ministry of National Defense and coordinating with local forces to accurately, promptly, effectively and properly handle situations, especially at sea, to avoid being passive or surprised, contributing to firmly protecting the sovereignty of the sea and islands assigned.

Speaking at the conference, Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Bong acknowledged and commended the achievements of the Naval Region 5 Command in 2024, and emphasized: The Southwest Sea area managed by Region 5 has a particularly important position in terms of economy, politics, national defense and security. Therefore, the unit needs to continue to thoroughly grasp the military and national defense tasks, resolutions and directives of superiors; constantly improve the quality of training, combat readiness, management capacity, and protection of assigned sea and island sovereignty; perform well the work of foreign defense; synchronously, closely, qualitatively and effectively deploy Party work and political work in the tasks; do a good job of preparing and successfully organizing the Party Congresses at all levels for the 2025-2030 term and activities to celebrate major holidays of the country, the Army, the Service, the Region, etc.
At the conference, the Naval Region 5 Command summarized the emulation movement to win in 2024 and launched the emulation movement to win in 2025. Summing up the 2024 Determined to Win emulation movement, the Navy Region 5 Command was considered and awarded the Emulation Flag by the Ministry of National Defense; Regiment 551 was awarded the Emulation Flag by the Navy Command; 110 collectives and 628 individuals were commended by leaders at all levels. |
