At the invitation of Lao Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Saleumxay Kommasith, Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son will attend the 57th ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting (AMM-57) and related meetings in Vientiane, Laos, from July 24-27.
In an interview with the press on July 11 about the progress of preparations for AMM-57 and related conferences, Lao Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Saleumxay Kommasith said that the subcommittees in charge are ready in all aspects, from accommodation to service facilities, communications, security, Internet, and tourist attractions.
Minister Saleumxay Kommasith said that AMM-57 is of great significance, as it prepares for the 44th-45th ASEAN Summits as well as related summits taking place from October 8-11.
According to the Lao Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, AMM-57 will focus on discussing the implementation of the ASEAN Community Vision 2025 and the development of a Strategic Plan to implement the ASEAN Community Vision 2045.
In particular, Laos will, together with Malaysia (the country assuming the role of ASEAN Chair for the next term), preside over the drafting of the Strategic Plan to organize the implementation of the ASEAN Community Vision 2045, including the ASEAN Political-Security Community Strategic Plan, the ASEAN Economic Community Strategic Plan, the ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community Strategic Plan and the ASEAN Connectivity Strategic Plan.
Regarding cooperation between ASEAN and the outside world, the Association will review cooperation with 11 partners and determine cooperation plans in the coming time to contribute to the process of building the ASEAN Community.
On this occasion, Laos will also co-chair the ASEAN-Australia Foreign Ministers' Meeting as the coordinator (2021-2024); then, Laos will assume the role of coordinator for ASEAN-Canada relations (2024-2027); co-chair the ASEAN+3 conference; chair the Foreign Ministers' Meeting of the East Asia Summit (EAS) with 19 participating countries and the 31st ASEAN Regional Forum with 27 participating countries.
