University presidents have more power, more real power.
The Minister of Education and Training said that compared to before, principals have more power, more real power; they have the ability to demonstrate their abilities and creativity. However, there are also more difficulties, along with that are higher social constraints and accountability requirements.
"Being a principal in a period of university transition and autonomy, in a context that requires breakthrough development, is a challenge. For modern university governance, the principal needs to demonstrate the ability to manage and operate an educational institution in a modern, intelligent, and formal manner.
That requires the principal to learn, improve his management capacity, and have the vision of a scientist, in addition to his expertise. For a research-oriented university, scientific issues, international cooperation, and promoting the intelligence of scientists are important matters," Mr. Son emphasized.
Mr. Son also noted that Ho Chi Minh City University of Agriculture and Forestry has a wide range of subjects and scope, and with the characteristics of the profession, the students are from urban to rural areas. The principal, in addition to the role of a scientist and manager, needs to fulfill the role of a teacher and a social worker.
The Minister believes that with what he has done and the trust of the school, Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Tat Toan will successfully complete his tasks before the school, the education sector and society. The Ministry of Education and Training will create the best conditions for Mr. Toan and the school's leadership to successfully complete the assigned tasks.
