At the Techo Sen National Center for the Disabled, athlete Nguyen Van Hung competed in the 72kg weight class with opponents from Thailand and Myanmar. He was successful in all three registered weights, 150kg, 153kg and 155kg respectively.
Meanwhile, his closest rival, weightlifter Phutachat Panomkhet (Thai), was only successful at the first two weights of 130kg and 132kg, and failed at the final weight of 135kg.
The third place winner, Win San Aung (Myanmar), succeeded with the weights of 105kg, 110kg, and 115kg respectively.
Thanks to that, athlete Nguyen Van Hung won the gold medal for the best weightlifting result of 155kg and the total weight after 3 attempts of 458kg.
Win San Aung won the silver medal for the total lift with 330 kg after 3 lifts, while Phutachat Panomkhet won the silver medal for the weightlifting with 132 kg.
Thus, up to this point, the weightlifting team has contributed 10 gold medals to the "golden list" of achievements of the Vietnamese delegation at the 12th ASEAN Para Games.
These are all "double" achievements of veteran athletes, including: Le Van Cong (49kg), Nguyen Binh An (54kg), Dang Thi Linh Phuong (50kg), Chau Hoang Tuyet Loan (55kg) and most recently, athlete Nguyen Van Hung.
Notably, Chau Hoang Tuyet Loan successfully conquered the 105kg weight to "break" the old record (104kg) set by herself at the congress.
As of 1:50 p.m. on June 6, the Vietnamese Paralympic Sports Delegation had a total of 105 medals of all kinds, including 31 gold medals, 28 silver medals and 45 bronze medals, ranking 3rd in the medal tally of the 12th ASEAN Para Games.
