The US sports delegation won 18 medals on the 8th day of competition of the 2024 Paris Olympics, including 5 gold medals, 6 silver medals (HCB) and 7 bronze medals (HCĐ). This achievement helped the US surpass host France and Australia to rise to second place in the medal table as of 8:00 a.m. on August 4 (Vietnam time).
The gold medals that the US sports team just won made the whole world admire. Swimmer Katie Ledecky won the gold medal in the women's 800m freestyle event, setting a record for winning the 4th consecutive Olympic gold medal in this event.

This is also the 9th gold medal in Katie Ledecky's career, thereby helping her equal the record for the most Olympic gold medals of a female athlete in all sports, held by gymnast Larisa Latynina.
Another notable name is Simone Biles with the gold medal in the women's vault. This is the "Gymnastics Queen"'s third gold medal at the Paris Olympics as well as the 7th Olympic gold medal of her career. In swimming, the American athletes also broke the world record in the 4x100m medley relay with a time of 3 minutes 37.43 seconds.
Despite the US team's strong acceleration in the race for the medal standings, the Chinese team maintained their top position for the third consecutive day, winning three more gold medals on the eighth day, with 16 gold medals, 12 silver medals, and nine bronze medals.
Besides winning gold medals in their strong sports of badminton (Chen Qingchen/Jia Yifan, women's doubles) and table tennis (Chen Meng, women's singles), China also created an earthquake in women's singles tennis.
In the final, Zheng Qinwen defeated Donna Vekic to bring home the first Olympic singles gold medal in history for Chinese tennis.
The third place on the overall ranking belongs to host France with 12 gold medals, 14 silver medals and 15 bronze medals, while Australia takes fourth place and the United Kingdom is in fifth place. South Korea and Japan are no longer in the top five when sharing sixth and seventh place.
China continues to lead the medal tally of the 2024 Paris Olympics after 8 days of competition.
Notably, on the 8th day of competition, the Philippines became the first Southeast Asian representative to win a gold medal at the Olympics as well as the first representative to enter the medal table, although 63 sports delegations have won medals at the Olympics up to this point.
On August 3, two Vietnamese athletes, Trinh Thu Vinh (shooting) and Nguyen Huy Hoang (swimming), could not create a surprise and followed the previous 11 athletes to say goodbye to the Olympics. Vietnamese sports only have 3 athletes competing in the Olympics, including Nguyen Thi That (cycling), Trinh Van Vinh (weightlifting) and Nguyen Thi Huong (canoeing).
