Lao player sets historic milestone in V.League

In the derby match in round 18 of V.League 2024/25, Damoth Thongkhamsavath was sent onto the field by coach Tomislav Steinbruckner at the beginning of the second half to replace Pham Truong Tinh in the central midfield position. Damoth Thongkhamsavath became the first Lao player to play in Vietnam's highest professional football league. Born in 2004, he is emerging as one of the outstanding players of the Lao national team and is still old enough to participate in the 33rd SEA Games later this year.

Damoth Thongkhamsavath signed a contract with Thanh Hoa after the match between Laos and Vietnam in the first leg of the third qualifying round of the 2027 Asian Cup held at Binh Duong Stadium in March.

Before his debut in V.League in round 18, Damoth was put on the bench by coach Steinbruckner for the Thanh Hoa vs. Hanoi match in round 17. Captain Doan Ngoc Tan's injury and his participation in the second match he was registered for showed Damoth's potential to compete for a position in the midfield of Thanh Hoa Club in the near future.
