Ministry of Public Security informs about the case of 'saving at SCB to buy Manulife insurance'

On the afternoon of June 3, on the sidelines of the Government press conference, Lieutenant General To An Xo said that so far, the police have received 579 complaints related to the case of savings being turned into Manulife life insurance.

At the same time, according to Maulife's report, as of May 31, this unit has received 6,060 contracts. The number of complaints that the unit has completed resolving is 3,553 contracts, refunding more than 800 billion VND to customers. Currently, Manulife is continuing to resolve 2,507 contracts.

Lieutenant General To An Xo affirmed that the Ministry of Public Security has requested the Ministry of Finance to request Manulife and related organizations to receive petitions and denunciations from customers. At the same time, it is recommended that customers with complaints and denunciations come directly to Manulife's petition reception points to submit their petitions, and not gather in large numbers, causing disorder.

It is strictly forbidden for unrelated individuals to gather and cause insecurity; assign local authorities and police to coordinate with Manulife and other organizations to ensure security and order at application receiving points.

Currently, the police are coordinating with other agencies to continue verifying the contents related to people's denunciations in accordance with legal regulations.

Previously, the leaders of the Ministry of Public Security directed the Department of Investigation Police on Corruption, Economic Crimes, and Smuggling (C03) of the Ministry of Public Security to urgently verify the above incident. Accordingly, C03 was assigned to work with relevant groups and individuals, evaluate and classify and handle people's complaints in accordance with the provisions of law.

Previously, at the end of April, many people went to the Office of the Ho Chi Minh City Police Investigation Agency to file complaints and reflect on the "transformation" of savings deposits at SCB into Manulife life insurance.

In the complaint, many people said that when working at SCB, they were advised to invest in the "Investment with Peace of Mind" package, with a commitment to high profits. Later, they discovered that this was actually a Manulife life insurance contract, not a new form of investment savings.

At the regular press conference of the first quarter, Mr. Doan Thanh Tuan, Deputy Director of the Department of Insurance Management and Supervision (Ministry of Finance), said that the inspection results of 4 insurance companies discovered certain violations.
