Hong Kong At 63, Gym Tan, a social media influencer (KOL), has a youthful figure and appearance without using Botox.
With 417,000 social media followers, Tan has become a symbol of ageless elegance. Fans are often surprised to see the middle-aged woman wearing bold, backless sportswear with a well-proportioned body. With her influence, Tan has about 50 advertising contracts, many of which are modelling contracts.
“No Botox, no fillers. I don’t use any of that stuff,” Tan told the Post in Los Angeles.
Her first secret was running . She and her husband were both passionate about marathons. On their first date, they both completed a 5km run along Bowen Road in Mid-Levels, Hong Kong. They got married within a year. Even after having children, Tan did not give up her passion for running.
While living in Hong Kong, she traveled to Macau and completed two marathons. Tan plans to attempt the New York Marathon with her daughter and husband on November 5.
"I don't see anyone as a rival and don't need to prove anything. I just want to finish, be injury-free and have new experiences," she said.
When she’s not training for marathons, Tan walks more than 9 km every day. She says this habit reminds her to never give up and to always accept challenges at any age.
According to a study in the journal Progress in Cardiovascular Disease, regular runners live three years longer than those who do not have this habit. To come to this conclusion, scientists analyzed the benefits of running in the past and compared them with other forms of exercise. They found that for every hour of running, people lived seven hours longer and runners' lives were extended by up to three years. Walking and cycling also increased life expectancy, but not as much as running.

Explaining the above phenomenon, the group of authors stated that jogging is a particularly effective form of exercise. In addition, joggers often have a healthy lifestyle, maintain a reasonable weight, do not smoke and limit alcohol.
In addition to running, Tan maintains a healthy diet , gets enough sleep, and keeps herself stress-free. She has no habit of snacking, avoiding chicken skin and greasy foods. In a video shared on Instagram, she mentioned her morning smoothie consisting of ice cream, fruit, orange juice, yogurt, almond butter, and a scoop of protein powder. She has a fixed eating rule: always eat protein at all meals.
Tan eschews modern health trends like red light therapy, saunas, and cold soaks. She believes the simpler approach is to get seven hours of sleep a night and maintain close relationships with family members.
Tan and her daughter Mya share many joys when they are together. She also expressed her love and admiration for her husband, saying that they are "still the same as in the beginning".
However, Tan also honestly shared that youthful appearance can partly depend on genetics.
"I might just be lucky. I'm Asian, maybe it's in my DNA that I'm naturally slim," she said.
