According to ZDnet , this will allow users to ask questions to Google Bard in different Google apps. The feature is called the Bard extension, which is used to link this chatbot with Gmail, Docs, Google Drive, Google Maps, YouTube... The company hopes that users will use Bard as a consolidation point to help quickly retrieve information from different services.
For example, if a user needs to plan a family trip to Japan, they can use Bard to search for dates for all members from Gmail, then search for flights (Google Flights), hotels (Google Hotel), find directions (Google Maps), and also ask the AI chatbot to open YouTube to watch videos about this country...
Or they can use Bard to find a resume saved in Google Drive, then ask the AI chatbot to summarize it to help create a cover letter. Google claims that any personal information collected from Gmail, Docs, or Drive services is not viewed by anyone other than the account owner, is not used to create targeted ads, and is used to train Bard.
Users can choose which Google services Bard can access.
To use the Bard extension on Chrome, users can find and download it from the browser's extension store. Once installed and activated, they can choose to enable or disable extensions for Google Flights, Hotels, Maps, Workspace, and YouTube.
One problem with today's AI chatbots is that they're prone to misinformation or hallucinations, so Bard offers a way to double-check any English responses. Google said in a blog post that Bard can now deliver higher-quality and more accurate responses. The company used advanced reinforcement learning techniques to train the AI model to be more intuitive and imaginative.
