Nearly 2,000 artifacts and documents displayed at Con Dao Museum have created an emotional picture of 113 years of history, marking the resilient and indomitable fighting spirit of patriotic soldiers and people.

Con Dao Museum started construction in December 2009. The project is located on Nguyen Hue Street (Con Dao District, Ba Ria - Vung Tau Province) with a campus of more than 2 hectares, of which the construction area is 3,570 m2 , the exhibition area is 110,700 m2 . The museum is a place to preserve the cultural and historical heritage of the Vietnamese people; serving the sustainable development of Con Dao District.

In 2013, Con Dao Museum officially came into operation amid the expectations of the people of the whole country and Con Dao district. At the same time, it met the thoughts and aspirations of former political prisoners of Con Dao in preserving the relics that had been associated with the resistance war against colonialism and imperialism in this "hell on earth". The museum's exhibition space is designed quite simply but extremely impressive, including 1 reception room and 4 main themes: Con Dao nature and people; Con Dao hell on earth; Con Dao battle lines, schools; Con Dao today. In addition, the museum also has a gallery and thematic exhibition.

With 2,000 documents and exhibits, Con Dao Museum offers a panoramic view of the nature and people of Con Dao from prehistoric and early historical times to the current development stage and learn about the history of the struggle in Con Dao prison. In the photo is a trolley artifact recreated around the 1930s, the French colonialists designed a 60cm wide iron track starting from Ban Che office (now the beginning of Le Hong Phong street) and dividing into 2 branches. One branch goes to Da office at the foot of Chua mountain (now Phan Chau Trinh street), the other branch goes to Cui office (now Vo Thi Sau street).

The wax statues recreate images of patriotic scholars and prisoners imprisoned and tortured in Con Dao prison - once recognized as the harshest prison in Indochina at that time.

The national flag was secretly sewn and hidden by revolutionary soldiers in prison to prepare for the uprising to liberate Con Dao.

The photo “Mother and son reunited”. The person in the photo is death row inmate Le Van Thuc in an emotional moment when he met his mother again when he returned to Vung Tau on May 5, 1975.

The next generation like us is always grateful for the sacrifices of heroes and martyrs and always tries to study and work to promote that patriotic tradition."
