At the summary conference of the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam held on December 19, Bamboo Airways General Director Luong Hoai Nam said that up to now, the airline only has 10 aircraft, including 7 Airbus aircraft and 3 Embraer aircraft. The airline is also currently operating only 16 domestic routes compared to its peak period when it had more than 60 domestic routes.
Therefore, Bamboo Airways also has a lot of surplus labor, specifically hundreds of surplus pilots and about 500 surplus flight attendants.
In the context of labor surplus, Bamboo Airways leaders said that Vietjet has helped the airline with 50 flight attendants and 20 pilots, while Vietnam Airlines is still researching. Bamboo Airways continues to call on airlines to actively help the airline solve the labor surplus.
Speaking to Lao Dong on the sidelines of the conference to report on the 2023 year-end and deploy the 2024 plan of the Ministry of Transport held on December 28, Mr. Le Hong Ha, General Director of Vietnam Airlines (VNA) said that, in response to the information that Bamboo has hundreds of pilots and flight attendants in surplus after restructuring, Vietnam Airlines has planned to use these personnel in accordance with the needs.
According to Mr. Ha, although Vietnamese airlines compete with each other in a business environment, they still need to support each other for the common development of the industry.
"Faced with the excess resources of other airlines, VNA must find a way to resolve them and use them appropriately based on its own needs. We are implementing the plan," Mr. Ha informed.
Mr. Le Hong Ha also said that recently, Bamboo Airways has reached a cooperation agreement with Pacific Airlines - an airline belonging to Vietnam Airlines Group in providing ground services. Pacific Airlines will provide services from check-in, baggage handling, passenger buses in the parking lot, aircraft trolleys...
"All businesses must operate effectively, but how effective is another story. Pacific Airlines is also an airline heavily affected by the COVID-19 pandemic and is also having to strongly restructure both its fleet and its operations.
Pacific Airlines has ground service departments at three main airports: Noi Bai, Tan Son Nhat and Da Nang. When Pacific Airlines restructures, it also has to handle its ground service activities at those airports. In addition, Bamboo has a need and this is a condition for Pacific Airlines to support Bamboo in ground service activities and create jobs for Pacific's own staff. This is a process of mutual support and assistance and is extremely necessary," the CEO of Vietnam Airlines emphasized.
