Lessons on leadership principles from General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong have helped many localities strive to rise up and build their homelands to become more prosperous and beautiful.

Taking to heart the General Secretary's advice, the Party Committee, government and people of many localities have always strived to build their homeland to become more prosperous and beautiful.
Caring for fishermen at sea
Reminiscing about the memories and advice of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, Mr. Phan Khanh Lam, former Party Secretary of Tinh Ky commune, Quang Ngai city (formerly Son Tinh district, Quang Ngai province) said that in 2012, when the General Secretary visited and wished a happy New Year, all the cadres and people of Tinh Ky were very happy and excited.
At that time, as the Party Secretary of the commune, he accompanied the General Secretary on field trips. The General Secretary was very simple and close, listening to local authorities report on the socio-economic situation, people's lives, Party building work, and building the cadre team.

General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong advised grassroots cadres to stay closely connected with the people, take care of their livelihoods, especially fishermen in coastal areas. They must regularly encourage people to go offshore to catch seafood and participate in protecting the sovereignty of the country's seas and islands.
The General Secretary reminded the local government that in order to eliminate hunger and reduce poverty, it is necessary to transform labor, create jobs suitable for the development of the fisheries economy, and increase income for coastal people. After the General Secretary's visit, the Party Committee of Tinh Ky commune focused on building a political system, being close to the people, grasping the ideological situation, especially the lives of fishermen.
The government acts as a bridge to facilitate people's access to capital sources to purchase fishing gear to go offshore and protect the sovereignty of the sea and islands.
Fisherman Doan Don, An Vinh village, owner of the QNg 91396 TS boat with a capacity of 505 horsepower, has been a good fisherman in Tinh Ky commune for many years. Mr. Don shared that in 2012, when hearing that General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong was visiting the locality to wish them a happy New Year, the fishermen put aside their family work to welcome the General Secretary. Mr. Don still clearly remembers the General Secretary's advice when talking to the local government, to take care of the people, especially fishermen in coastal areas.
Mr. Don’s family’s boat works in the Hoang Sa fishing grounds, providing jobs for 25 local fishermen. “Fishermen in Tinh Ky have been attached to the sea for generations, and the General Secretary’s advice has given them more strength. We always keep in mind that as long as we are healthy, we will continue to go out to sea to produce, maintaining the sovereignty of the sea and islands of the Fatherland,” Mr. Don emphasized.
Close to farmers
From 2010 to 2016, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong visited and worked in Ben Tre twice; always paying attention and showing affection to cadres, party members and people of Dong Khoi homeland.
Over the past few days, upon hearing the news of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong’s passing, Mr. Vo Van Nhu, from Tan Thanh Commune, Giong Trom District, Ben Tre Province, could not help but feel sad and heartbroken. Recalling the time more than eight years ago, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong went to survey rice fields in Ben Tre that were affected by drought and salinity.

When the commune leader informed him that the General Secretary was visiting to talk with the villagers, Mr. Nhu was very worried because he had never met a high-ranking leader before, and also a little shy because he was in his farming clothes.
However, the closeness of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong when meeting the people made him no longer surprised. He remembered every detail and every sentence in that special meeting that day.
He said: "The first image I saw when Uncle Trong got out of the car and walked towards the rice field was a very simple and friendly figure. Uncle Trong smiled and waved to us, we greeted back. The General Secretary went to the field to observe and directly touched the rice plants to see. Then Uncle Trong talked to the people about the impact of drought and salinity, the difficulties of the people; encouraged the people. The General Secretary encouraged that the drought and salinity situation was caused by natural disasters, farmers and the State must work together to overcome this difficult period. The Party and the State will also have plans to support and accompany farmers to respond to climate change and natural disasters, continue to grow crops and produce better..."
Mr. Mai Tan Minh (66 years old) also said that day he was in the field, his hands and feet were covered in mud, but Mr. Nguyen Phu Trong did not hesitate to shake his hand. That made Mr. Minh remember forever the high-ranking leader who was not afraid of difficulties or hardships, going down to the field to "witness" the difficulties caused by natural disasters, and from there, directing the local government to make changes in responding to drought and salinity. Now, the people of the coconut land have proactively responded to climate change in production and in life.
Mr. Minh confided that even though he lives far away, every time the TV or newspapers broadcast information and images of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong at meetings or business trips, he watches very carefully because "it makes me happy to see him healthy." Although he knows that this is a common thing in life, Mr. Minh still feels regretful when he hears the news of the General Secretary's passing.
Former Secretary of Ben Tre Provincial Party Committee Vo Thanh Hao shared that on March 17, 2016, the working trip of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong to Ben Tre mainly focused on listening to reports on the implementation and concretization of the Resolution of the 10th Provincial Party Congress, term 2015-2020; inspecting, visiting and encouraging people affected by drought and salinity; visiting the new rural commune of Huu Dinh (Chau Thanh) and working with the Standing Committee of the Provincial Party Committee.
When starting to survey in Giong Trom district, the General Secretary suddenly turned around and said: "Get in the car with me!". This was an unexpected situation, making Mr. Vo Thanh Hao a bit confused.
Along the way, the General Secretary continued to ask him about the people's living conditions, the construction of the Provincial Party Committee's regulations, the relationship within the Standing Committee; especially, what difficulties there were in working under the condition that the Provincial Party Secretary was not a member of the Central Committee.
The General Secretary was particularly interested in learning how to build the Provincial Party Committee's action program with 113 tasks; he considered this a creative approach.
When listening to the Provincial Party Committee's report on the Dong Khoi program to start a business to escape poverty and become rich, the General Secretary listened very attentively. "After listening, the General Secretary welcomed the way the issue was raised from the perspective of Ben Tre's breakthrough and rise. Obviously, no one can deny that Dong Khoi is a historical milestone of the Southern revolution, very glorious! But we cannot be immersed in the past and have enough food and clothing. We must inherit and promote it so that the people can end suffering, end poverty, and become rich! Whether or not culture and tradition are here!" Mr. Vo Thanh Hao recounted.
During his meeting with General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, the former Secretary of Ben Tre Provincial Party Committee said that the General Secretary pointed out a great lesson in leadership methods and principles that he himself always tries to learn and apply in his work.
"No matter what position he holds, comrade Nguyen Phu Trong is always a loyal cadre and a leader who is devoted to the country and the people," Mr. Vo Thanh Hao said emotionally./.
