Bac Lieu: An attractive destination for investors

With the motto of "always accompanying and sharing difficulties with businesses and investors", in recent times, Bac Lieu has been considered a "bright spot" in attracting investment for domestic and foreign businesses.

With its coastal location and river system leading to the sea, the province is very favorable for developing high-tech shrimp farming models.

RICH POTENTIAL, STRENGTH

Bac Lieu is a coastal province in the Mekong Delta region and is located in the Ca Mau Peninsula, bordering the provinces of Ca Mau, Kien Giang, Hau Giang, Soc Trang, 280km from Ho Chi Minh City, 120km from Can Tho City. With a temperate climate, flat land, little affected by natural disasters, storms and floods, and a coastal location with 3 ecological zones of salt - fresh - brackish water, Bac Lieu has many potentials and advantages for development, especially in the agricultural sector, with the main product being shrimp and the focus is the Bac Lieu High-Tech Agricultural Zone for shrimp development, the only shrimp-developing agricultural zone in the country.

In particular, Bac Lieu has a 56km long coastline, with good sunshine and wind all year round, very suitable for developing wind and solar power projects. Currently, Bac Lieu has 8 wind power plants in operation, with a total capacity of over 469MW (ranked 3rd in the country), along with 2 wind power plant projects under implementation, with a capacity of 191MW. At the same time, the province has attracted the Bac Lieu LNG Power Plant Project, with a capacity of 3,200MW, a total investment of 4 billion USD and has been added by the Prime Minister to the National Power Plan VII, identified as an important power source project and a priority investment of the Electricity industry. This is an important premise for Bac Lieu to become one of the clean energy centers of the country.

Along with that, Bac Lieu has great potential for tourism development with 12 tourist destinations recognized as typical tourist destinations in the Mekong Delta region and accounting for the most tourist destinations compared to other provinces in the region. Among them, there are famous tourist destinations such as: Bac Lieu Prince's House Cluster, Quan Am Phat Dai, Southern Amateur Music Art Memorial Area and musician Cao Van Lau...; or offshore wind power fields that not only attract tourists but also affirm the appeal of Bac Lieu as a promising destination on the Vietnam tourism map. Moreover, with its location between the provinces of Ca Mau, Kien Giang, Hau Giang, Soc Trang - areas with a large population and developing at a high speed, Bac Lieu has great potential and opportunities to invest in the fields of trade - services and especially high-quality healthcare and education...

TRANSPORT DEVELOPMENT

Although Bac Lieu is far from major economic centers, its transportation system is constantly being invested in and has high connectivity. Currently, the province has 3 national highways: National Highway 1, Quan Lo - Phung Hiep National Highway and Nam Song Hau National Highway. At the same time, the Ministry of Construction and Transport is implementing the Hau Giang - Ca Mau section component project of the North - South Eastern Expressway Construction Project; Ho Chi Minh Road Construction Investment Project, Rach Soi - Ben Nhat, Go Quao - Vinh Thuan sections (including the section passing through Bac Lieu province).

Along with that, Bac Lieu is implementing key routes of the province such as: Investment project of the Mekong Delta connecting route, Ganh Hao - Gia Rai - Pho Sinh - Canh Den route connecting with Ho Chi Minh road (Pho Sinh - Canh Den section); Project to build a route from Phuoc Long town (Phuoc Long district) to Ba Dinh (Hong Dan district)... In the period of 2026 - 2030, the Government and Bac Lieu continue to invest in key projects according to the plan such as: Ha Tien - Bac Lieu Expressway, expanding National Highway 1, upgrading provincial routes DT.978, DT.976, DT.981, DT.982...

The above key projects, when put into operation, will significantly contribute to Bac Lieu in the circulation and transportation of goods, promoting the socio-economic development of Bac Lieu province and the Mekong Delta region.

The inland waterway system alone consists of 18 main canals (of which 6 are managed by the Central Government and 12 by the province) connected by vertical and horizontal routes. Important national waterways such as the Bac Lieu - Ca Mau vertical canal, the Quan Lo - Phung Hiep canal, the Ganh Hao River, the Ganh Hao - Ho Phong canal leading to the East Sea and local horizontal canals such as Gia Rai - Pho Sinh, Ho Phong - Chu Chi..., contribute significantly to Bac Lieu's circulation and transportation of goods by waterway both domestically and internationally. With advantages such as carrying large volumes of goods and long-distance transportation, it helps circulate goods between provinces in the region with major economic centers (Can Tho City, Ho Chi Minh City), seaports and vice versa.

Promoting these potentials and strengths, Bac Lieu has been actively focusing on attracting investment in 5 key areas, including: Agricultural development with a focus on high-tech agriculture, improving the efficiency of shrimp and rice production; Industrial development, with a focus on renewable energy (including wind power, solar power) and gas electricity; Tourism development; Development of high-quality trade, services - education - healthcare and development of the marine economy associated with ensuring national defense and security.

Regarding the general orientation, Bac Lieu focuses on attracting and calling for investment projects, selecting projects with high quality, high added value, using modern technology, biotechnology, new materials, environmentally friendly and solving many jobs in the locality. Strengthening the promotion of calling for investment in large-scale projects; selecting large, reputable investors with financial potential. At the same time, focusing on small and medium-sized projects suitable to the potential, strengths and conditions of the province. Strengthening the attraction of domestic and foreign investment capital...
