Harris's lead is fading.

Observers say that Kamala Harris no longer has the advantage over Donald Trump like she did in the early stages of the election.

In just over 10 days, the US will officially enter the election day to choose the person to lead the country for the next 4 years. So far, the polls still show a fierce and close confrontation between Republican candidate Donald Trump and Democratic opponent Kamala Harris.

Democrats are concerned

The "blue wave" of Democrats who have supported Vice President Kamala Harris since she entered the race are now hoping she can make a push to attract voters in the final stretch. However, there have been concerns about Harris' campaign strategy this week, and some Democrats feel that Trump is gradually gaining momentum and dominating, according to The Hill .

US Election: Nearly 25 million voters cast early ballots, Mr. Trump, Ms. Harris sprint

Ms. Harris started this week with a busy schedule, campaigning in three states: Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin in just one day on October 21, followed by interviews with media outlets on October 22 and 23. What made observers skeptical was her visit to Texas on October 25, which is considered a Republican stronghold and has little chance of the Democrats winning here. Surveys also mentioned that the safe gap that Ms. Harris once created compared to Mr. Trump is gradually narrowing.

The Hill /Decision Desk HQ poll on October 24 compiled more than 280 surveys showing that Ms. Harris still leads Mr. Trump by about 0.9 percentage points, but this gap has narrowed significantly compared to previous months. Meanwhile, the above prediction of the winner "changed direction" for the first time this week, when it said that Mr. Trump has a 52% chance of being re-elected, after more than 2 months of predicting a higher chance of victory for the Democratic candidate.

Republican pollster Frank Luntz told CNN on October 22 that Harris had the best 60 days of any modern presidential candidate, but he said her momentum had stalled since she shifted her focus to attacking Trump instead of focusing on policy messages.

Mr. Trump changes his stance

As for Mr. Trump, he faced new troubles this week. First, on October 23, The New York Times quoted Mr. John Kelly, former White House chief of staff under Mr. Trump, accusing the former president of having the criteria of a "fascist", accusing Mr. Trump of once praising dictator Adolf Hitler.

The Guardian then published an interview with former model Stacey Williams that day, alleging that Trump had sexually harassed her at Trump Tower in 1993. Trump denied the allegations. Whether or not this information has any impact on the psychology of American voters remains a question.

US Election: Will Trump achieve results if he changes his mind?

Forbes magazine on October 23 cited data from the statistics site TargetSmart showing that more than 18 million voters have voted early, including nearly 8 million Republicans. Early voting usually sees a significant difference in the Democratic Party. This year, Mr. Trump has changed his stance and called on everyone to vote early.

Data from the University of Florida (USA) shows that 43% of Democrats voted early and 35% of Republicans in 25 states. The numbers have changed in Mr. Trump's favor compared to 2020, when the former president spread information about mail-in ballot fraud. At that time, the University of Florida counted 53% of Democrats voting early in 17 states, while Republicans only had 25%.

Early voting also allows campaigns to use their resources more efficiently, as they only need to target voters who have not yet voted. Getting voters to vote is also an important goal for candidates to increase their chances of winning. In 2020, about 66% of eligible voters cast ballots.

Ms. Harris will "conclude" next week.

Democratic candidate Harris will give her “final speech” in the confrontation with Mr. Trump on October 29, a week before the election. AFP on October 23 quoted an official of Ms. Harris’s campaign as saying that this important speech will emphasize the contrast in Ms. Harris’s and Mr. Trump’s visions.
