Arsenal beat newly promoted team in 7th minute of injury time

$133 million player Declan Rice scored in the seventh minute of injury time to help Arsenal win 4-3 at newly promoted Luton Town in round 15 of the Premier League.

There were only six minutes of stoppage time and Arsenal scored the winner with 22 seconds to go in the seventh minute. Oleksandr Zinchenko passed to captain Martin Odegaard, who crossed with a left foot into the box for Rice to head high into the corner. Goalkeeper Thomas Kaminski flew as far as he could but could not get a hold of the ball.

This was the latest goal Arsenal have scored in the Premier League since the 2006-2007 season. This goal also helped the Gunners end a 10-match winless streak when visiting Luton in all competitions since 1984. After Rice scored, all of Arsenal's starting and reserve players ran to the corner of the pitch to celebrate the victory together.

Rice is the third Arsenal player to score two stoppage-time winners in a Premier League season, after Ian Wright in 1993-94 and 1995-96 and Nicklas Bendtner in 2009-10. In the 3-1 win over Man Utd in the fourth round in early September, the England midfielder also scored in the sixth minute of stoppage time to make it 2-1.

Since joining Arsenal for a transfer fee of 133 million USD, Rice has had another important goal - a one-touch shot from more than 35 meters to help Arsenal draw 2-2 at Chelsea.

Rice's latest strike helped Arsenal consolidate their position at the top of the table with 36 points, temporarily extending the gap to Liverpool and Man City to five and six points respectively. Today, Liverpool travel to Sheffield United, while defending champions Man City visit Aston Villa.

Before round 15, Arsenal were rated much higher when they won all five recent matches in all competitions and held the top spot in the Premier League. Meanwhile, Luton Town only won one of the last eight matches and ranked 17th, just two points above the relegation zone.

Luton Town have the advantage of playing at Kenilworth Road, where they have picked up five points from six games this season. Rob Edwards' side also held title contenders Liverpool to a 1-1 draw at the same ground.

The last time the two teams met was in 1991, also in the top flight of English football, Luton Town beat Arsenal 1-0 at Kenilworth Road. At that time, Arsenal had many great players such as David Seaman, Tony Adams, Nigel Winterburn, Lee Dixon, Paul Merson and Ian Wright.

At Kenilworth Road on December 5, Arsenal dominated with 67% possession, 23 shots with nine on target - compared to 6 and 4 of the home team, but experienced a difficult match, as coach Mikel Arteta's cautious prediction before the match.

In the 20th minute, Gabriel Jesus threw the ball quickly to Bukayo Saka on the right wing when Luton Town's defense was not yet stable. The English midfielder led into the penalty area and then passed it back for Gabriel Martinelli to cross the corner to break the deadlock. But just five minutes later, center back Gabriel Osho equalized with a header into the top corner.

In the 45th minute, also from a set-up on the right wing, Saka poked the ball through for Ben White to run down and then crossed to the far corner for Gabriel Jesus to head into the empty net. But Luton Town only needed four minutes after the break to equalize. From a free kick on the home team's right wing, David Raya came out inappropriately, allowing Elijah Adebayo to jump high and head into the empty net.

Less than ten minutes later, the Spanish goalkeeper made another mistake when he dived too slowly, even though Ross Barkley's shot went right to his chosen spot. In the 60th minute, Gabriel Jesus made his mark again, pressing and lifting the ball for Kai Havertz to break free and finish with one touch past Thomas Kaminski. The visitors put on suffocating pressure for the last half hour, and were rewarded with a decisive header from Rice.

In the next round, the "Gunners" will continue to visit Aston Villa on December 9.
