Apple has released its first-ever App Store Transparency Report, its largest app store for iOS and iPadOS devices. The most notable information mentioned is the removal of apps that violate Apple's regulations in 2022.
Accordingly, Apple's app store has 1,783,232 apps. In 2022, Apple's team rejected nearly 1.7 million app registrations from the App Store due to various fraud and privacy-related errors. The company's app review process has detected apps that use malicious code that can steal users' login credentials from third-party services. Some apps disguise themselves as harmless financial management platforms but have the ability to turn into something else.
In 2022, Apple removed 186,195 apps, mostly in the game category (38,883 apps) and utility tools (20,045 apps). Vietnam had 8,462 apps removed with the most reasons being design principle violations (4,657 apps) - sixth in the world, apps removed for fraud were 3,626, second in the world.
App Store Transparency Report Shows More Details About Apple's App Marketplace
Apple's transparency report also said that Vietnam was in the top 10 countries for the number of developers complaining after their apps were removed, with 416. Eleven apps were brought back to the App Store after Apple reviewed them.
Apple said China was the top country for app removal requests. The Chinese government asked Apple to remove 1,435 apps from the store. Of these, 1,276 games were removed for not having a GRN license. Apple also removed 14 apps at the request of the Indian government. Pakistan and Russia also made the list with 10 and 7 apps, respectively.
The App Store has nearly 37 million registered developers. Apple's app store has more than 656 million visitors per week, with 747 million downloads. Last year, the company locked 282 million accounts and prevented $2.2 billion in fraudulent transactions on the platform.
The report was released as part of a 2021 lawsuit settlement with a group of developers. Apple agreed to be more transparent about its App Store policies.
