Hanoi After beating up a friend and sending him to the hospital due to "psychological trauma", 8 students from Dai Dong Secondary School were put on the local education management list.
Two days ago, a video of a male student being beaten by a group of men in Hanoi went viral on online forums. In the video, the victim is seen crouched in a corner of a hallway, being punched and kicked in the head and stomach by five other male students.
According to Mr. Do Cong Duc, Principal of Dai Dong Secondary School, Thach That District, the incident happened in mid-June and was not the first time. During the beating at school last month, the victim had to undergo psychological trauma treatment for 10 days, often showing signs of confusion and lack of concentration. The school determined that there were 8 male students involved in the beating, all in 7th grade.
The families of these students have visited and pledged to take responsibility and cover the costs until the victims recover. The locality, the secondary school and some social organizations have also joined hands to support the treatment of the victims. However, the next course of action for the 8 male students who beat up their friend, besides suspending them from school for 4 days, is of interest to many people.
On October 28, Ms. Kieu Thi Khuyen, Chairwoman of Dai Dong Commune People's Committee, said that the locality's viewpoint is to find close educational measures, not to seek to punish students because "violence will beget violence".

The Chairman of Dai Dong Commune acknowledged that all of them were only 12 years old. If adults or society attacked or discriminated against them, they would feel guilty and would not be able to develop normally.
"They are all children, with incomplete awareness. We have to give them a path to develop. If people attack too much, only blame without a solution, I am afraid those children will be hurt again, and later society will suffer the consequences. I think that is not the right thing to do," said Ms. Khuyen.
Therefore, the leaders of Dai Dong commune said that they prioritized close education measures, putting these 8 students on the education management list for each village. Each education management team includes the village chief, local police, family representatives and teachers. The members of the team will coordinate and guide to help the students.
"In this incident, the locality will guide the students who beat their friends to realize that their behavior was wrong, and to know how to share and sympathize with their friends," said Ms. Khuyen.
The People's Committee of Thach That district requested a review of the responsibility of the Board of Directors of Dai Dong Secondary School and the leaders of Dai Dong Commune People's Committee in managing order when this incident occurred. Regarding the school, Mr. Duc said that he would strengthen the education of students so that this incident would not happen again.
In August, the Ministry of Education and Training identified school violence as one of the sector’s problems, estimating that nearly 7,100 students were involved in 2022. According to current regulations, disciplinary action for students who violate the law includes three forms: warning, reprimand, and temporary suspension from school.
