On the evening of December 26, a parent posted an article online and said that her child, K., a third-grade student at La Khe Primary School (Ha Dong District, Hanoi), was "physically impacted" by the teacher on the face, hands, and neck during a physical education class.
Parents say their child was "physically abused" by the teacher.
Ms. NNL said that according to her child, on the morning of December 24, during teacher M's physical education class, the teacher pulled her legs down the stairs, kicked her neck and shoulders with her shoes, and slapped her in the face.
"While my friends and I were playing, teacher M. pulled K. out and dragged K.'s legs from one step to another. When I resisted by grabbing the railing, she used her shoe-wearing foot to kick my shoulder and neck, causing injuries.
Next, the teacher cursed and slapped the child in the face. After the child cried, Ms. M. let the child leave the classroom and stand alone in the hallway after the actions at the multi-purpose room," Ms. L. reflected.
This parent said that after the incident, K. went home and told her family. The parent contacted teacher M. directly to hear her explanation.
On December 25, the family had a meeting with the school principal to discuss the incident.
"The family was very willing to resolve the relationship between the family and the school and requested to extract the camera on December 24, but it has been 3 days now and there has been no specific response and we have not been able to view the camera footage," the parent reported.
School announces results of camera image inspection
On the evening of December 27, La Khe Primary School had official information about the complaints from parents.
According to the school, on December 24, during the final exam of the first semester of physical education for class 3A7, at the multi-purpose room taught by teacher D.HM, there were a number of students in the class who were constantly playing around and not concentrating during the exam, including student N.D.K.
"Because she was worried about the class's test progress, the teacher pulled student K. out of the multi-purpose room to hand over to the homeroom teacher of class 3A7 to manage, so as not to affect the test of other students.
During that time, student K. did not listen and protested strongly, so the teacher left the student outside the multi-purpose room and returned to the multi-purpose room to continue checking the remaining students. At the end of the lesson, teacher M. let the students return to class and observed that student K. was still playing with her friends normally," the school said.
On December 25, the student's parents reported the incident to the school's board of directors. After working with the student's parents, the school worked privately with teacher M., asking her to rewrite the incident report.
"On the morning of December 27, the principal of La Khe Primary School invited parents to the school, invited representatives of the police agency, and the Department of Education and Training to work together to publicly extract the camera during the final exam of the first semester of physical education for class 3A7 of teacher M. on December 24 in the multi-purpose classroom.
Through the recorded images, it can be seen that teacher M. pulled the students out of the multi-purpose room. The students resisted and did not want to leave, and were seen leaning against the floor. After that, the teacher returned to continue the test with the remaining students.
During the entire camera observation, there was no image of Ms. M. hitting a student during the lesson at the multi-purpose room as reported on social media. Because there is no camera in the multi-purpose room hallway, there is no image of the incident outside the multi-purpose room hallway.
Up to this point, the school continues to coordinate with the Department of Education and Ha Dong District Police to verify the incident," the school said.
The school added that after the incident, the school decided to temporarily suspend teacher M. from work for a week to verify. At the same time, the teacher was required to write a report, self-criticize and continue to apologize to the student's family.
Principal says teacher admitted to slapping student
Previously, speaking with Tuoi Tre Online on the afternoon of December 27, Ms. Bui Thi Chuyen, principal of La Khe Primary School, Ha Dong District, said that this morning, L.'s parents, teacher D.HM and the school had a direct meeting.
According to Ms. Chuyen, there was no camera in the hallway of the multi-purpose room, so it was impossible to record what happened outside. However, in her report after the incident, teacher M. confirmed that she did not kick, stomp, or drag K., but admitted that she slapped the student once because he resisted.
The school principal said the teacher also admitted that it was wrong to pull the student out of class and slap him.
"That action was wrong, the teacher also admitted her mistake, violated regulations, teachers are not allowed to do that. The school has temporarily suspended teacher M. from teaching since December 25 to self-criticize and the school investigates the incident," said Ms. Chuyen.
Ms. Chuyen added that student K. is in stable health and still attends class as usual.
