On the afternoon of February 14 (the 5th day of Tet), the Ministry of Health informed about the medical work situation during the 2024 Lunar New Year (7 days of Tet from the 29th of Tet to the 5th day of Tet (February 14, 2024) and key tasks in the coming time.

According to reports from the Institutes of Hygiene and Epidemiology, Pasteur Institute, Centers for Disease Control of provinces/cities, and International Health Quarantine Centers, the epidemic situation during the Lunar New Year is as follows:

From February 8 to February 14, 2024, 357 cases of dengue fever were reported nationwide; no deaths were recorded.

There are currently 5 localities with dengue fever outbreaks that need to be monitored, including: Tien Giang (11 outbreaks), An Giang (9 outbreaks), Tay Ninh (8 outbreaks), Ben Tre (6 outbreaks), and Ho Chi Minh City (3 outbreaks).

In addition, from February 8 to February 14, 2024, 225 cases of hand, foot and mouth disease were reported nationwide; no deaths were recorded.

In addition, during the 7 days of Tet, the whole country recorded no cases of Covid-19, Measles, Monkeypox, influenza A (H5N1), influenza A (H5N6), MERS-CoV.

The total number of patients coming for examination and emergency care was 416,932 people.

Recorded 1 case of rabies in a human who died in Tan Phu commune, Thoi Binh district, Ca Mau province; Ca Mau Provincial Center for Disease Control has organized investigation, supervision and participated in handling according to regulations.

Regarding the organization of medical examination and treatment, according to data compiled from reports of medical examination and treatment facilities under the Ministry of Health, 63 Departments of Health of provinces/cities and health sectors nationwide from February 8, 2024 to 7:00 a.m. February 14, 2024, recorded, regularly ensuring emergency care and medical examination and treatment for people:

The total number of patients currently being treated is 133,641, an increase of 11.1% over the same period of Tet Quy Mao 2023.

The total number of patients coming for examination and emergency care was 416,932 people, an increase of 33% over the same period of Tet Quy Mao 2023.

The total number of inpatients hospitalized for treatment is 151,550 people, an increase of 4.3% over the same period of Tet Quy Mao 2023.

The total number of surgeries was 16,572; including 3,364 emergency surgeries, down 8% compared to the same period of Tet Quy Mao 2023.

Total number of deliveries and cesarean sections at the hospital: 16,624 cases, down 7.1% compared to the same period of Tet Quy Mao 2023. Total number of discharged patients was 119,366 patients, up 5.9% compared to the same period of Tet Quy Mao 2023.

Regarding the situation of emergency examinations for suspected traffic-related accidents, the total number of examinations and emergency treatment for suspected traffic-related accidents was 23,244 cases, down 12.1% compared to the same period of Tet Quy Mao 2023.

The number of suspected traffic-related accidents requiring hospitalization or monitoring was 8,967 cases, down 8.4% compared to the same period of Tet Quy Mao 2023.

The number of cases transferred to higher levels for treatment was 2,930, an increase of 6.5% compared to the same period of Tet Quy Mao 2023. The total number of cases being treated at the hospital was 5,728, a decrease of 1.4% compared to the same period of Tet Quy Mao 2023.

The number of suspected deaths due to traffic accidents was 118 (of which deaths in hospital: 37; deaths before hospital: 81), down 22.4% compared to the same period of Tet Quy Mao 2023.

Regarding accidents caused by firecrackers and explosives, during the 7-day Tet holiday, there were a total of 604 cases of examination and emergency care due to firecrackers and fireworks, an increase of 51.4% compared to the same period of Tet Quy Mao 2023 (315 cases had to be hospitalized, an increase of 15% compared to the same period of Tet Quy Mao 2023).

The total number of medical examinations and emergency treatment for accidents caused by weapons and other homemade explosives was 87 cases, an increase of 56 cases compared to the same period of Tet Quy Mao 2023 (39 cases had to be hospitalized, an increase of 17 cases compared to the same period of Tet Quy Mao 2023; deaths: 4 cases, an increase of 2 cases compared to the same period of Tet Quy Mao 2023).

Regarding food poisoning and digestive disorders, the total number of examinations and emergency care for food poisoning and digestive disorders was 616 cases, down 9.5% compared to the same period of Tet Quy Mao 2023. The number of hospitalizations for monitoring and treatment: 341 cases, down 19.6% compared to the same period of Tet Quy Mao 2023.

According to the Ministry of Health, during the Tet holidays, hospitals will still ensure the maintenance of regular medical examination and treatment, emergency care, procedures, and surgeries, including the most difficult and complicated techniques such as organ transplants.

108 Central Military Hospital has successfully performed the removal and transplantation of multiple tissues and organs from a brain-dead donor due to a traffic accident.

On February 9, 2024 (New Year's Eve), the Hospital mobilized more than 150 doctors, nurses, and experts to organize the collection, transplantation, and coordination of 8 tissues and organs; 5 organ transplants were performed immediately after tissue and organ collection (heart transplant, liver transplant, kidney transplant, pancreas-kidney transplant, 2 arm transplant); in coordination with the National Organ Transplant Coordination Center, 2 lungs were coordinated for the Central Lung Hospital.

Also on the 30th of Tet, the Central Lung Hospital successfully performed a lung transplant. The lung recipient was a 21-year-old female patient from Bac Kan province.

The Central Lung Hospital mobilized about 80 direct personnel to participate and other experts from the National Organ Transplant Coordination Center, 108 Military Central Hospital, E Hospital, Friendship Hospital, Hanoi Heart Hospital and international experts.

After the organ transplant, all patients were actively monitored and treated; up to now, the patients' health is stable and their organs are gradually recovering well.

Regarding the supply of medicine for medical examination and treatment, medical facilities have fully prepared medicine for medical examination, treatment and disease prevention and control.

As of February 14, 2024, the Ministry of Health (Department of Drug Administration) has not received any reports of drug shortages or drug price increases for medical examination and treatment for the people .
