In this update, Vietnam has only 6 representatives on the list of the world's richest people in 2023, one less than the 2022 ranking.
The 6 Vietnamese billionaires in 2023 announced by Forbes include: Vingroup Chairman Pham Nhat Vuong, VietJet Air CEO Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao, Hoa Phat Chairman Tran Dinh Long, Techcombank Chairman Ho Hung Anh, Thaco Chairman Tran Ba Duong and Masan Chairman Nguyen Dang Quang.
Vingroup Chairman Pham Nhat Vuong still leads the list of the richest people in Vietnam this year with assets of 4.3 billion USD, lower than the figure of 6.2 billion USD last year. This is the 11th time Mr. Vuong has appeared on this list. Vingroup Chairman ranks 636th in the list of world USD billionaires.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao continues to be on the list with assets of 2.2 billion USD, ranked 1,368. This year, Ms. Thao's assets also decreased compared to 3.1 billion USD in 2022. Ms. Thao currently holds the role of Vice Chairwoman of the Board of Directors of HDBank, Vice Chairwoman and CEO of VietJet Air.
Steel tycoon Tran Dinh Long owns 1.8 billion USD, down from 3.2 billion USD last year. He is currently ranked 1,647th in the world. Following him is Mr. Ho Hung Anh - Chairman of Techcombank, equal to Mr. Tran Ba Duong and his family, both with assets of 1.5 billion USD and ranked 1,905th in the world.
Mr. Ho Hung Anh is on this list for the 5th time. His assets this year are 1.5 billion USD.
Thaco Chairman Tran Ba Duong was included in the billionaire list in 2018, currently worth 1.5 billion USD. Truong Hai Auto Corporation (Thaco), which he founded, initially sold cars, then gradually assembled for foreign brands such as Kia, Mazda and Peugeot and produced Vietnamese-branded buses and trucks.
Masan Chairman Nguyen Dang Quang, with assets of 1.3 billion USD, appeared on the list for the third consecutive year. Masan Chairman ranked 2,133rd on the world's USD billionaires ranking.
Vietnamese billionaires all have assets that have decreased compared to 2022. In total, 6 Vietnamese USD billionaires own assets worth 12.6 billion USD.
This year, Nova Group Chairman Bui Thanh Nhon was absent from Forbes' list. He was ranked as a billionaire for the first time in 2022, with 2.9 billion USD. Since the end of 2022, Mr. Nhon has no longer been on this billionaire list. His assets "evaporated" mainly due to the downward trend of NVL shares since the end of October 2022 after Novaland encountered many difficulties in the real estate market. Currently, the market price of this code is under 13,000 VND, nearly 7 times lower than a year ago.
In 2023, the world had 2,640 billionaires, 28 fewer than last year. A series of fluctuations over the past year caused half of the billionaires on the list to lose their fortunes. Together, they own $12.2 trillion, down $500 billion from last year.
In Forbes' list of the world's 10 richest people this year, LVMH boss Bernard Arnault is in the lead and is the only person with a fortune of 211 billion USD. He is followed by Tesla CEO Elon Musk with 180 billion USD, Amazon boss Jeff Bezos ($114 billion) and Oracle software company chairman Larry Ellison ($107 billion).
Volatility in the stock market and rising interest rates led to a bad year for the world's richest people, according to Forbes. However, the United States still has the most billionaires, with 735 members of the list worth $4.5 trillion. China (including Hong Kong and Macau) is second, with 562 billionaires worth $2 trillion, followed by India, with 169 billionaires worth $675 billion.
It is known that to be included in the list, the method chosen by Forbes is to evaluate the size of an individual's assets based on stock prices and exchange rates as of March 10./.
