As of July 16, farmers in the province had planted more than 51,100 hectares of winter-spring rice, completing the early and mid-season crops, reaching over 96% of the planned planting area. Five localities have completed the planting of winter-spring rice, including Nam Sach, Binh Giang, Gia Loc, Thanh Mien and Ninh Giang districts. Currently, there are only a few areas of late-season crops in Kim Thanh, Thanh Ha districts, Kinh Mon town and Hai Duong city, where farmers mainly plant specialty glutinous rice varieties.
The Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection recommends that localities speed up the planting progress, striving to complete the late season crop before July 20 so that the rice plants can grow tall and limit the impact of flooding that often occurs in late July and early August. Provide enough water for irrigation for newly planted rice so that the plants do not lack water, causing them to wilt and die in hot weather. Take the initiative to have timely drainage plans, avoid flooding when heavy rain occurs to reduce damage.
Farmers keep the remaining seedlings after transplanting, reserve short-term rice varieties such as KD18, BT7, HN6, P6DB... to sow additional seedlings and rice if the seedlings and rice die due to flooding. Expand the production area of concentrated rice areas "one area - one variety - one time" to facilitate care, as well as prevent pests and diseases and apply technical advances. Take care of and fertilize rice promptly, in sufficient quantity, and in balance, fertilize early and concentrate so that the rice grows well and tillers early.
