On December 16, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (MCST) officially announced 10 typical cultural, sports and tourism events in 2024 after collecting opinions from press agencies and online voting.
Pursuant to Decision No. 2748/QD-BVHTTDL dated September 20, 2024 of the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism on organizing the voting of 10 typical cultural, sports and tourism events in 2024, Van Hoa Newspaper - the mouthpiece of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism chaired and coordinated with relevant agencies to organize the voting of 10 typical cultural, sports and tourism events in 2024 with the participation of representatives of leaders of Departments and Offices under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and nearly 70 journalists following the fields of culture, sports, tourism and family from more than 50 central and local press agencies.
At the press conference on December 6, 2024, journalists participated in direct voting; at the same time, the Organizing Committee launched online voting on the Electronic Culture Newspaper, the Information Portal of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Electronic Newspaper To Quoc. Voting time is from 3:35 p.m. on December 6 to 5:00 p.m. on December 9, 2024.
Below are 10 typical cultural, sports and tourism events in 2024 compiled from two voting forms:

At the 8th session of the 15th National Assembly, the National Assembly officially approved the investment policy of the National Target Program on Cultural Development for the period 2025-2035. The birth of the Program is of great significance, creating a breakthrough to concretize and promote the effective implementation of the viewpoints, leadership and direction policies of the Party and State on cultural development, contributing to the comprehensive development of human beings and building an advanced Vietnamese culture imbued with national identity so that culture truly becomes an endogenous strength, a driving force for national development and national defense.
2. The National Assembly passed the Law on Cultural Heritage (amended), completing the legal corridor for the field of cultural heritage.

3. The Government issued two major plans on culture, sports and tourism, unleashing resources and creating a foundation for breakthroughs and development of the industry.

5. Vietnam has two more heritages recognized by UNESCO: "The reliefs on nine bronze cauldrons in the Hue Imperial Palace" were included in the List of Documentary Heritage of the Asia-Pacific region and the Festival of Lady Chua Xu of Sam Mountain was included in the List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
On May 8, 2024, at the 10th Session held in Ulan Bator (Mongolia), Vietnam's "Reliefs on Nine Bronze Urns in the Hue Imperial Palace" were officially listed in the UNESCO Asia-Pacific Documentary Heritage List.
On December 4, 2024 (local time), at the 19th session of the Intergovernmental Committee of the 2003 Convention held in Asunción, Republic of Paraguay, UNESCO inscribed the Festival of Lady Chua Xu of Sam Mountain on the List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

The fact that two heritages were recognized by UNESCO in one year further proves that the work of preserving and promoting cultural heritage has achieved many achievements. This is also one of the activities that clearly demonstrates the role and responsibility of Vietnam - an active member of UNESCO in the effort to internalize international treaties and programs on cultural heritage of which Vietnam is a member.
6. Cultural industry makes breakthroughs with programs of great stature, appeal and social impact

2024 is a year that has recorded many positive signals in the development of Vietnam's cultural industry. The Hanoi Creative Design Festival 2024, concerts of the programs Anh trai vu ngan cong gai, Anh trai say hi, the first international Jazz program - Nha Trang 2024, the success of the films "Dao, Pho va Piano", "Lat mat" ... have created positive effects, contributing to promoting the development of the cultural industry.

For the first time, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism organized a large-scale Vietnam Tourism - Cinema Promotion Program in the US film capital of Hollywood, attracting more than 500 guests including leading Hollywood producers and directors, marking a breakthrough and innovation in promoting Vietnam's tourism to exploit and develop tourism through cinema.
8. Vietnam tourism recovered strongly after the pandemic, welcoming about 17 million international tourists and 120 million domestic tourists.

In 2024, Vietnam will be honored to receive 3 awards: “Asia's Leading Destination”, “World's Leading Heritage Destination” and “Asia's Leading Natural Destination”. Notably, this is the 6th time in the past 7 years that Vietnam has been honored as “Asia's Leading Destination” (in 2018, 2019, 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024), affirming the position of Vietnam tourism as an attractive destination, a bright star on the tourism map of Asia and the world.
9. Vietnam will host the United Nations Tourism Organization (UN Tourism) International Conference on Rural Tourism in 2024.
The first International Conference on Rural Tourism held in December 2024 is a global conference, attracting the participation of more than 300 delegates from 50 countries around the world. This is not only an event to promote the development of agricultural and rural tourism in Vietnam but also demonstrates the role, responsibility and prestige of Vietnam in international tourism organizations, thereby promoting the completion of the sustainable tourism development goals of UN Tourism.
Also within the series of events, within the framework of the International Conference on Rural Tourism, the United Nations Tourism Organization (UN Tourism) awarded the title of Best Tourist Village to Tra Que Vegetable Village (Hoi An, Quang Nam). This is also the only representative of Vietnam to win this award this year. This event contributes to honoring the value, spreading the brand and promoting Hoi An, Quang Nam tourism to international visitors.

At the 2024 FIVB Challenge Cup held in early July in the Philippines, the Vietnamese women's volleyball team made history for the country's volleyball by winning a medal for the first time at a world-level tournament.
Previously, at the end of May, also in the Philippines, the Vietnamese women's team successfully defended the Asian Volleyball Cup - AVC Challenge Cup 2024 championship. This is considered another achievement of Vietnamese women's volleyball.
