Patriotism, the power of great solidarity - the source of victory

After the victory of the August Revolution, the Democratic Republic of Vietnam was established by the power of patriotism and the word “dong” - “dong minh, dong tam, dong tam” in the Vietnam Independence League (abbreviated as the Viet Minh Front), our Party continued to expand the National United Front, leading to the birth of the Vietnam National Union (May 1946), abbreviated as Lien Viet. At the second session of the first National Assembly (October 31, 1946), the National Assembly entrusted Ho Chi Minh with the responsibility of establishing a new Government based on the principle of solidarity and gathering talents without distinction of political parties. The Government with Ho Chi Minh as President clearly demonstrated the spirit of “national union” and national unity.

The national resistance war broke out, Uncle Ho issued a call for national resistance that resounded throughout the mountains and rivers, containing heartfelt emotions, rallying all forces, and rallying the people: “Compatriots! We must stand up! Men and women, old and young, regardless of religion, party, or ethnicity. Anyone who is Vietnamese must stand up to fight the French colonialists to save the Fatherland.”

Uncle Ho's call for national resistance, along with the work "Resistance Will Definitely Win" (August 1947) by General Secretary Truong Chinh, demonstrated the policy of a people's war, all-people, comprehensive, long-term, relying mainly on one's own strength. Accordingly, the Party and Uncle Ho focused on cultivating factors that ensured victory in the resistance, such as Party building, armed forces building, patriotic emulation, etc. The red thread running through these activities was solidarity and patriotism. Uncle Ho pointed out that among the factors of favorable time, favorable location, and harmony, harmony between people was the most important. Party building and army building must consider solidarity and patriotism as the core. He said, "A military without politics is like a tree without roots, useless and harmful."

In Thanh Hoa (February 1947), he outlined a plan to build Thanh Hoa into a model province, from which to expand to the whole country, demonstrating the goal and motivation of the resistance as "everyone knows how to unite and love the country". Speaking with representatives of intellectuals and wealthy people of Thanh Hoa province, he pointed out that "politics is unity and purity from big to small. The invincible strength that we can use to defeat the enemy and gain independence and unification is unity. Today, the Fatherland is in danger and division is disadvantageous. We must put aside all personal grudges to take collective revenge on the invaders, that is to win". With the correct guidelines and policies of the Party, the great national unity bloc was consolidated and strengthened in the practice of the people's resistance, creating a solid political foundation for the cause of resistance and nation building.

At the Second Party Congress (February 1951), Uncle Ho clearly stated that “the enemy plotted to divide, so we raised the slogan of “unifying the entire people”. So right from the beginning, our strategy defeated the enemy’s strategy”. Our Party set out the task of strengthening national unity, consolidating the Lien Viet - Viet Minh Front, at the same time strengthening international unity, helping the resistance of Cambodia and Laos, moving towards the establishment of the Vietnam - Cambodia - Laos Front, expanding friendly relations with friendly countries around the world. In the Political Report, Uncle Ho emphasized “developing the spirit of patriotism”, and affirmed: “Our people have a passionate love for the country. That is a precious tradition of ours. From ancient times to the present, every time the Fatherland is invaded, that spirit is stirred up, it forms an extremely strong, huge wave, it overcomes all dangers and difficulties, it drowns all traitors and invaders”. He clearly pointed out that our compatriots today are worthy of our ancestors in the past. All classes of people, all ages, have their own activities such as destroying the enemy, supporting the army, women advising their husbands and children to join the army, and volunteering to help with transportation, mothers taking care of the army, workers and farmers competing to increase production, landowners donating their land to the Government... Those noble gestures, although different, are all the same in their passionate patriotism. People consider patriotism as precious things. Our duty is to make those hidden treasures come out to display, to make the patriotism of all people be practiced in patriotic work, in resistance work.

Affirming the great role of patriotism in the years of resistance, Uncle Ho emphasized that it was due to patriotism that our army and people endured many years of hardships, determined to defeat the colonialists who invaded the country and the Vietnamese traitors. To promote patriotism and solidarity, he pointed out that the Vietnam Workers' Party united and led the entire people to fight until complete victory, regaining unity and complete independence; leading the entire people to implement new democracy, creating conditions to advance to socialism.

Along with the development of the resistance, the National United Front was gradually consolidated and expanded. In March 1951, the Viet Minh - Lien Viet Unification Congress opened. The congress had enough delegates from all classes, religions, ethnic groups, young and old, men and women, showing that a "forest of great solidarity has blossomed and borne fruit, its roots are deeply rooted and spreading throughout the entire population, and it has an "everlasting spring" future as Uncle Ho felt. He believed that this great solidarity bloc would develop into solidarity with friendly countries, peace-loving and democracy-loving people in the world. He believed that this extremely great force would not only help us win the resistance war and build the nation successfully, but we would also contribute to the cause of protecting world peace and democracy.

United in the Viet Minh Front, we won the August Revolution. United in the Lien Viet Front, our people defeated the French colonialists, leading to the great victory at Dien Bien Phu in the summer of 1954, marking a golden milestone in history, creating a “red wreath, golden history”, famous in five continents, shaking the world. That was the victory of patriotism, indomitable will, solidarity of the Vietnamese people and the support of international friends under the wise and talented leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam.

That patriotism and solidarity continued to be highly promoted in carrying out two strategic tasks: building socialism in the North and carrying out the People's national democratic revolution in the South with the spirit of "Nothing is more precious than independence and freedom", leading to the victory of liberating the South and unifying the country. In the process of renovation, to promote the strength of great national solidarity, our Party took the goal of building a peaceful, independent, unified, territorially intact, prosperous, prosperous, civilized and happy Vietnam as a common point. Therefore, the country has achieved great and historic achievements, creating an increasingly high foundation, potential, position and international prestige.
