On the positive side, prices of some of Vietnam’s main rice products have increased compared to those of Thailand and Pakistan, respectively, from 14 to 34 USD per ton. It is forecasted that Vietnam’s rice exports this year could reach a new record for the industry.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, by early August, the Southern localities had planted 1,548,432 hectares of summer-autumn rice, an increase of 0.5% compared to the plan. Currently, the provinces and cities have harvested 761,468 hectares (accounting for 49.2%).
Currently, many provinces and cities in the Mekong Delta are accelerating the sowing of Autumn-Winter rice to avoid floods. In Dong Thap province, the 2024 Autumn-Winter rice crop has been planted on 89,804 ha/120,000 ha, reaching 74.8% of the plan, focusing on accelerating the progress of sowing the Autumn-Winter rice crop to avoid floods. Most of the Autumn-Winter rice area is planted with high-quality and high-yielding rice varieties such as Dai Thom 8, OM 18, OM 5451, OM 4900, Nang Hoa 9. The proportion of high-quality rice varieties is over 70%.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, by early August, the Autumn-Winter rice crop had been sown on 367,336 hectares, equivalent to 50.5% of the plan.
Along with domestic paddy prices, rice prices are showing signs of strengthening. Vietnamese traders said low domestic supplies and increased deliveries to key markets such as Indonesia and Africa have boosted prices.
