"Little hero" not yet 3 years old quickly saves drowning friend

On April 6, a clip was circulated on social media recording the moment a nearly 3-year-old boy in Nghi Dien commune, Nghi Loc district, Nghe An province, although he could not speak fluently, quickly discovered and called adults to rescue his friend who had fallen into a pond.

According to images from a video recorded by a family's security camera, while the adults were sitting and talking in the yard, a child about 3 years old ran in, screaming and pointing outside.

Because the child could not speak fluently, the adults did not understand what he was saying at first. The child continued to scream, point, and run out of the gate. A few seconds later, the adults realized something was wrong, so they ran after the child to the gate and were able to save another child who had just fallen into the pond.

It is known that the child in the accident was a boy about 5 years old, the son of a family who came to visit, unfortunately slipped and fell into the pond in front of the house. Upon discovering the incident, the boy, nearly 3 years old, immediately ran into the house screaming for adults to come and rescue him in time.

The child's extremely intelligent instinctive actions made many people admire him. Although he was very young and could not speak clearly, he still knew how to recognize danger and had quick reflexes to save his friend in time.

The story was widely shared on social media, and was later verified by reporters to have happened at the home of Nguyen Quan Dung (also known as Thanh), residing in Nghi Dien commune, Nghi Loc district (Nghe An). The boy who quickly saved his friend was Nam Phong, Dung's adopted son.

Sharing with Dan Tri reporter , Mr. Dung said that at around 12:40 on April 5, his family had guests coming to visit. After lunch, while the adults were sitting and chatting, a 5-year-old boy, the guest's son, went out to play near the pond in front of the house and unfortunately slipped and fell into the water.

At this time, little Nam Phong (Mr. Dung's adopted son, nearly 3 years old) saw the incident and immediately panicked and ran into the house, calling the adults: "Mom, come out!". Because the baby could not speak clearly or in complete sentences, his words initially made everyone in the house not understand what was happening.

However, immediately after that, Nam Phong continued to point towards the pond, causing the adults to suspect something was wrong and immediately ran after him. Luckily, the child who fell into the water was brought to shore in time and was not in danger of his life.

Mr. Dung emotionally shared: "Nam Phong is our adopted child who we adopted when he was very young. Although he is only nearly 3 years old and cannot speak fluently, he is very agile and understanding. If he had not reacted so quickly today, the consequences could have been very unpredictable."

Immediately after the incident, the family of the child who fell into the pond expressed their emotions and sent their deep thanks to Nam Phong and Mr. Dung's family.

"Our family is truly grateful for Nam Phong's timely actions. Without his quick wit and instinctive reflexes, we don't know what would have happened. He is so young but very smart, truly a 'little hero' in everyone's eyes," a relative of the child shared.
