Reflecting to Nguoi Lao Dong Newspaper , many parents of class 4/3 at Chuong Duong Primary School said that they are very upset and worried about the actions of the class's homeroom teacher, Ms. TPH.
"In the past few days, many parents have lost sleep because they are afraid that Ms. H. will "bully" their children. Not only that, parents are also confused by the teacher's threatening words," said one parent.
Representing many parents in the class, Ms. N. said: "Many parents in the class have signed a petition to change the homeroom teacher or transfer classes for their children, but so far it has not been resolved. Parents are really worried and uneasy if their children continue to study with Ms. H." Ms. N. also said that parents have sent a petition to the Department of Education and Training of District 1 and the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City to find the best solution for their children, because they cannot let their children's study time with Ms. H. be extended any further.
Messages asking for support to buy laptops
According to the parents, the incident originated from the fact that September 14 was the first parent meeting of the year for class 4/3. Before the meeting, Ms. H. told some parents in the class's parent representative committee that she would not collect funds, and that she had lost her laptop so she asked the parents to donate a laptop.
When the representative board announced, the parents calculated that the computer cost about 5-6 million VND, each parent would contribute 200,000 - 300,000 VND. Some parents said that the amount was only enough for her to buy the computer, there was no money left for activities, so they proposed 500,000 VND, any parent who could afford it would pay, no equalization and no coercion. At this parent meeting, some parents paid cash to the representative board (then transferred it directly to Ms. H.), some parents then transferred money directly to Ms. H.
"Ms. H. asked the class to support her with a laptop worth about 4 to 5 million, a document printer, and 300,000 VND per month to support the nanny. Then the parents suggested that the printer was bought in 3rd grade, so they should contact the old homeroom teacher to get it back for the class to use," said a parent.
At noon of the same day, Ms. H. sent a message to the class zalo group with the following content: After the first meeting of the school year, 29 parents have paid. Currently, I have 14,500,000 VND. I gave the nanny 300,000 VND. I paid 500,000 VND to the scholarship fund. I have 13,700,000 VND. I bought a laptop, I will inform the parents of the remaining amount. And I would like to ask for this laptop too, parents.
On the same day, September 14, Ms. H. took pictures of 2 laptops and quoted a price of 5.5 million for a gray one and 11 million for a black one. "She said she would take the black one for 11 million to run data quickly, the parents supported her with 6 million, she would make up the difference with 5 million. She thanked the parents."
When a parent disagreed, Ms. H. asked which student's parent they were.
On September 16, Ms. H. continued to text with the content that on Saturday (September 14), she asked parents to support laptops of about 5-6 million. And she bought a laptop for 11 million, so she added 5 million. And this laptop is hers. Do parents agree? Then this teacher created a vote for agreeing and disagreeing for parents to vote. During the vote, there were parents who disagreed, Ms. H. texted again to ask which child the parent disagreed with. Then she locked the vote.
According to the parents, the class zalo group has 47 members, of which 26 parents agree (both parents vote for 1 student), 3 parents disagree, and 18 parents have no opinion.
Ms. H continued to text: Up to now, 26 parents have agreed, 3 parents have not agreed, and 9 parents have no opinion. If there are parents who do not agree, I will not accept it. I bought it myself and used it myself. I also bought the printer myself. I do not accept anything from you. I sincerely thank you.
On September 17, Ms. H. continued to text with the following content: Last night and this morning, I received many messages and phone calls from parents begging me to accept the class's support. I would like to make clear my position that I do not accept it, parents. And I also do not have to prepare review outlines for the children. I agree on the review lesson and parents review on their own. Thank you, parents. Okay, parents.
After the parents complained to the school, Ms. H. said she would not prepare the outline.
Some parents said that on September 24, a few days after Ms. H. texted that she did not accept the class's support, she sent a copy of the expenses after receiving money from the parents to the representative board members. But in this income and expenditure report, the laptop was still recorded as 6 million VND and the speaker was 2 million VND. When the representative board members did not agree, saying that she would only delete the laptop and speaker expenses of 6 million VND and 2 million VND, she said that she had to have the consent of all parents. After that, Ms. H. deducted the expenses such as the power outlet (220,000 VND), the wall clock (160,000 VND), the slogan: 30,000 VND, and the scholarship association contribution of 50,000 VND, then handed over the money to the parents.
According to the parents' reflection, the incident would have been nothing if the following days, when the children came home from school, they told her that the teacher let them learn too much through TV. For most subjects, she let them watch YouTube, even some solutions on TV, and let them copy them down. Many children could not copy them down in time and had to give up. In math, she let them copy the questions on TV and books and do them themselves. On days when she was not diligent, she opened PowerPoint for the children to copy the solutions instead of explaining. She taught math quickly, and many children did not understand. If they did not understand and asked questions, she would scold them...
Principal: "The incident is very unfortunate, but we don't know how to resolve it yet"!
On the afternoon of September 27, the reporter had an interview with Mr. Le Cong Minh, Principal of Chuong Duong Primary School.
According to Mr. Minh, he knew about all the incidents that parents reported to Nguoi Lao Dong Newspaper, because parents also reported to the school. According to Mr. Minh, Ms. H. was completely wrong. As the head of the school, he felt that the incident was very regrettable and currently did not know how to resolve it.
Mr. Minh added that right after some parents complained about Ms. H. asking parents to buy laptops, he called Ms. H. to discuss and remind her and correct her. Mr. Minh added that the school had informed all teachers, not just Ms. H., that the operating expenses of the parents' representative committee could be sponsored for the class, but she could not ask for it.
"Ms. H.'s request for support to buy personal laptops is completely wrong. She also cannot send messages to parents about not preparing review outlines. Teachers cannot send messages like that," Mr. Minh affirmed.
According to Mr. Minh, when the school reminded her, Ms. H. organized a vote to agree or disagree.
The principal of Chuong Duong Primary School added: On September 24, the school organized a mediation session between Ms. H. and the parents of the class. At this meeting, 27/38 parents of the class participated. Mr. Minh added that in front of many parents, Ms. H. apologized to the parents and asked for a chance. At this meeting, the school proposed a solution that any parents who felt insecure could ask to change classes, and 25/27 parents at the meeting wanted to change classes.
However, according to Mr. Minh, the class transfer has not been implemented yet, and the school does not have a reserve teacher to replace Ms. H. as the homeroom teacher of class 4/3.
When reporters asked what the school would do to ensure the rights of students while Ms. H. continued to teach, Mr. Minh said there would be many solutions such as surprise inspections, checking students' notebooks to see if she taught according to the schedule and teaching plan... The school has reported to the leaders of the Department of Education and Training to ask for a solution and is in the process of resolving the issue. At the same time, he asked parents to give the school time to resolve the issue...
