Players compete in three categories: blitz, rapid and standard for male and female players and age groups U11, U16 and U20. After many years of development, Go has become an official sport in the national competition system.

Vietnamese Go players have also begun to assert their position in leading regional and continental tournaments. Although their achievements are still modest, they have demonstrated the special ability of the Vietnamese people in intellectual sports.

"This year's tournament set a record for the number of players and participating delegations, the largest ever. In addition to having all the best players in Vietnam today, the tournament also featured many young faces.

We expect to find more new talents through this tournament, towards the National Sports Festival and official international events" - Mr. Nguyen Minh Thang, Permanent Vice President and General Secretary of the Vietnam Chess Federation commented.

This is also the third consecutive time through the Korea - Vietnam Friendship Association (KOVIFA), Hansoll Textile Group has accompanied the Vietnam Chess Federation to organize the national Go and youth Go championships to continue developing the Go movement in Vietnam and finding good players to participate in international tournaments.

After the opening ceremony, the players entered the first two rounds of the standard chess event. The players will compete in standard chess until April 4, then continue to compete in rapid chess and blitz chess until April 7.
