Applying organic production, joining hands to protect the environment, processing organic waste into fertilizer, raising calcium worms, etc. are activities that are being widely spread in the production life of members and farmers throughout the province. This contributes to concretizing the Project "Green transformation of Khanh Hoa province in the period of 2024 - 2030".

Safe production
Farmer Cao Thanh Hai (Ko Roa village, Son Lam commune, Khanh Son district) said that his family's 3 hectares of durian are being grown and cared for according to organic criteria. He produces according to orders from businesses, requiring that the durian must ensure quality and apply organic methods. His family also buys refrigerators to freeze durian for sale all year round. Not only Mr. Hai, the cultivation of durian meeting VietGAP standards, following the organic direction is gradually expanding in Khanh Son. Producers, including many ethnic minority households, have gradually changed their thinking and working methods in developing green and sustainable agriculture according to the province's orientation.
In Ninh Hoa town, the farming and livestock model on hundreds of hectares of land owned by Mr. Nguyen Minh Thanh (Ninh Tan commune) is also invested in a systematic, closed, organic and symbiotic way; raising livestock for fertilizer, raising crickets, calcium worms, earthworms, etc. to create food and make organic fertilizer. In Khanh Vinh district, green and fresh gardens are also appearing more and more. Ms. Le Thi Kim Thanh - Director of Khanh Trung Green Agriculture Cooperative said that for nearly 6 years, along with cultivation, the cooperative has focused on applying organic methods to improve the land, increase soil fertility, such as: Raising worms, raising calcium worms, applying treated manure, using essential oils and natural enemies to repel harmful insects... Thanks to that, 16 hectares of fruit trees including many types such as: Green-skinned grapefruit, coconut, star apple, rambutan, jackfruit, guava, pomegranate, cherry, durian, date palm... of the cooperative have all grown well, the quality of agricultural products has increased.
According to statistics from specialized agencies, up to now, the whole province has more than 4,400 hectares of crops with planting area codes, hundreds of hectares of production meeting VietGAP standards, mainly green vegetables and fruit trees. At the same time, the area of land for safe, organic production, meeting export standards is constantly increasing. This is both a requirement and demand of current agricultural production, and contributes to realizing the province's green transformation in the agricultural sector.
Join hands to protect the environment
Mr. Truong Tan Hung - Vice Chairman of the Provincial Farmers' Association (PPA) said that PPA levels in the province have implemented models of raising calcium worms and making vermicompost. The models utilize agricultural by-products, pig, cow, chicken manure, organic waste, etc. to produce calcium worms and vermicompost. Up to now, these models have attracted hundreds of members and farmers to participate and replicate throughout the province.

For example, Mr. Nguyen Minh Chau's family (Binh Loc commune, Dien Khanh district) raises 15 pigs, 400 chickens and 1 fish pond. Mr. Chau said that each month the pigs excrete about 400kg of manure. Previously, he often put the pig manure in a corner of the garden to compost, causing a bad smell and affecting the surrounding environment. After attending a training course on raising calcium worms organized by the commune's Farmers' Association, he built a calcium worm breeding tank under the chicken coop, feeding them chicken manure, pig manure and leftover food at home. Each batch, he collects 30kg of calcium worms to feed his livestock. Thanks to that, he saves 2 million VND per month to buy food for chickens, pigs and fish and contributes to solving the problem of pollution from livestock manure. Up to now, his family has built 6 more calcium worm breeding tanks.
Near Mr. Chau's house, Mr. Vo Quoc Tra's family also realized that raising calcium worms contributes to protecting the environment in the countryside. Household waste such as vegetables, manure create food sources for calcium worms. When calcium worms mature, they become a food source for the family's livestock and crops, reducing investment costs in livestock farming.
Along with that, according to statistics of the Provincial Farmers' Association, to prevent harmful organisms, each year, the amount of pesticides used in fields and swidden fields is from 300 - 350 tons, thereby releasing 30 - 35 tons of pesticide packaging into the environment. Along with promoting propaganda and guiding farmers to gradually reduce the amount of pesticides, Farmers' Associations at all levels have also deployed hundreds of tanks to collect pesticide packaging and have been gradually actively responded and participated by members and farmers. For example, the "Farmers' Association model participating in collecting pesticide packaging associated with environmental protection" in Ninh Hoa town, farmers have collected and brought tons of pesticide packaging to the prescribed disposal site. Up to now, the work of collecting waste in the fields has changed clearly, farmers have seen the effectiveness of environmental protection in protecting their own health, creating a widespread effect. In addition, farmers also implement many effective models and activities such as: participating in environmental sanitation campaigns in fields and roads; collecting used batteries, collecting waste in aquaculture areas, protecting the ocean environment, etc.
Mr. Truong Tan Hung said that in recent years, the implementation of the Project "Propaganda and mobilization of farmers to treat waste in Vietnam, contributing to the international community's efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions" in Khanh Hoa province has achieved many positive results. Along with that, the implementation of the Project "Green transformation of Khanh Hoa province in the period of 2024 - 2030", all levels of Farmers' Associations and members, farmers across the province are gradually implementing effectively with many good models and practices, applied to life and production, contributing to changing the mindset of agricultural production towards green and sustainable.
