On June 28, the leader of the People's Committee of Hoan Kiem District (Hanoi) said that the government had assigned the district police to verify the clip of a woman offering the price of rose apple at 200,000 VND/kg.

Previously, social media circulated a clip of a woman selling fruit in Hanoi quoting a foreign man 200,000 VND for 1kg of rose apples, then weighing 2 fruits and quoting 40,000 VND/200g.

"Is 30,000 VND for two okay? Let's bargain a little," the male tourist asked.

The seller was reluctant but still accepted the money. The customer thanked him, paid and left. The incident is said to have happened on the Hoan Kiem Lake walking street (Hanoi), on the sidewalk of Dinh Tien Hoang street.

The clip was then shared on social media, causing mixed opinions. Some people said that the price was too high for a custard apple. However, many people also questioned the authenticity of the clip because the seller knew the customer was filming the clip but still sold it at that price.

On the TikTok page of the foreign man above, he often posts clips about experiencing street food in Vietnam. He speaks Vietnamese clearly.

According to Tuoi Tre Online , red rose apples have recently been sold a lot at markets and supermarkets in Hanoi, with prices ranging from 50,000 VND - 80,000 VND/kg depending on the place of sale and the quality of the fruit.

A fruit vendor at a wholesale market in the south of Hanoi said that roi has become scarcer in recent days, and prices have been pushed up. However, when sold to consumers, it is not more than 80,000 VND/kg.

"If sold at 200,000 VND/kg, it is too expensive," said this shop owner.
