On September 26, the Gia Lai Province Food Safety and Hygiene Department announced that it had concluded the suspected food poisoning case after drinking milk tea at Ton Duc Thang Secondary School, Pleiku City.

According to Mr. Do Tan Thanh - Deputy Head of the Gia Lai Province Food Safety and Hygiene Department - upon receiving information about the incident, this unit investigated, verified, and took food samples and pathology samples for analysis.

Through investigation, on the morning of September 16, parents of students in class 7.1 of Ton Duc Thang Secondary School bought milk tea at Co Ba Saigon tea and dessert shop to celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival.

There were 45 students participating, of which 34 drank milk tea.

About 15 minutes after drinking milk tea, 21/34 students experienced symptoms of stomachache, nausea, headache, and dizziness.

Of these, 2 children were hospitalized with a diagnosis of enteritis and colitis of unknown cause.

The remaining children were taken home by their parents for monitoring. The results of the analysis of the specimens showed no bacterial growth after culture.

In addition, the test results of milk tea samples at the Central Highlands Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology showed that the indicators were within the permissible limits according to national technical regulations for non-alcoholic beverage products.

Therefore, the Gia Lai Province Food Safety and Hygiene Department concluded that this was not a case of food poisoning.

As reported by Tuoi Tre Online , due to the above incident, on September 18, the Co Ba Saigon sweet soup and milk tea shop on Phung Hung Street, Pleiku City had to close and temporarily suspend operations after suspicions that the milk tea there caused poisoning to dozens of students.

Mr. Nguyen Van Vu, the shop owner, said that since receiving information about suspected milk tea poisoning among students, the establishment proactively suspended operations and waited for official information from the authorities before reopening.
