Intact in the heart of the historic March days

Da Nang in the historic month of March, seems to be reliving the emotions of the soldiers who participated in the battle. It has been 50 years since March 29, 1975, those soldiers are now at a rare age, but every time they recall that historic moment, their memories of those heroic and glorious days are still intact.

The battle at the two strongholds of Da Den and Go Phan (in Duy Trung commune, Duy Xuyen district, Quang Nam province today) of Battalion 1, or "R20", was considered the key battle to open the door to the Western front, creating conditions for the formation of Regiment 96 to capture Duy Xuyen district and the east of National Highway 1A, rapidly advancing to completely liberate Da Nang on March 29, 1975.

Colonel Le Ngoc Bay, former Deputy Commander of the Quang Nam - Da Nang Provincial Military Command, former Battalion Commander of Battalion R20 of Regiment 96, still remembers clearly that historic moment, when the enemy troops fled from the Da Den and Go Phan bases...

After the victory at Da Den and Go Phan, our forces attacked the districts, towns, and suburbs, and by noon on March 29, convoys of vehicles followed each other to Da Nang amid the jubilation of the people. In front of the City Hall gate at the moment of liberation, under the victory flag that had just been raised in the sky of Da Nang, a simple meal with loaves of bread became a beautiful image, forever imprinted in the hearts of the soldiers of Battalion R20.

As for Major Tran Ngoc Trung, Hero of the People's Armed Forces, the period of resistance of our army and people at the K20 Revolutionary Base (now located in Khue My Ward, Ngu Hanh Son District) until the day of Da Nang's liberation, is still intact in the mind of this veteran. On the morning of March 29, 1975, K20 issued the order to revolt. The entire masses, cadres, party members, and guerrillas of the base area, divided into many groups, marched into Nuoc Man airport without encountering any resistance from the enemy. At 9 o'clock on the same day, the flag of the National Liberation Front of South Vietnam flew over Nuoc Man airport.

March 29, 1975, a golden milestone in the history of Da Nang. This victory was not only the result of fierce battles on the battlefield, but also a testament to the strength of solidarity, determination and fierce patriotism of the army and people of heroic Quang Nam - Da Nang. Da Nang today not only affirms its position in the heroic flow of history, but also rises strongly in present life, confidently moving towards the future./.
