According to the draw results for the 2026 Women's Asian Cup qualifying round announced by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), the Vietnamese women's team is in Group E with Guam, UAE and Maldives.
Vietnam is the number 1 seed with North Korea, Philippines, Iran, Thailand, Uzbekistan and Myanmar. Vietnam will host Group E in Viet Tri (Phu Tho) in June 2025.
Evaluating the draw results, head coach Mai Duc Chung said: “Among the 3 teams in the same group, the Vietnamese women's team has only ever played against Maldives in the 2022 Women's Asian Cup Qualifiers. Although the Vietnamese women's team won that match, recently, countries in the continent have been investing and changing strongly, so we cannot be subjective.
Regarding UAE women's football, on March 22, Ho Chi Minh City Women's Club welcomed Abu Dhabi Country Club. Through that match, it can be seen that UAE women's football has many physical advantages with naturalized players. Guam is a new opponent for Vietnam women's football, but through preliminary information, this is also an opponent with physical strength" - Coach Mai Duc Chung commented.
Vietnam team hosts the group
Other representatives of the Southeast Asian region are Indonesia and Malaysia in group 2 while Laos and Cambodia fall into group 3, and Singapore and Timor Leste are classified in group 4.

The qualifying round of the tournament consists of 34 teams, divided into 8 groups (2 groups of 5 teams, 6 groups of 4 teams), playing a round-robin. The top eight teams will advance to the final round with host Australia and the three strongest teams of the 2022 season (China, Japan, South Korea). The six best teams of the final round will participate in the 2027 FIFA Women's World Cup.
The Vietnamese women's team will gather from May 2025, combining young players from the U19 tournament and the National Cup with experienced players, preparing for the qualifying round and the 33rd SEA Games. Coach Mai Duc Chung emphasized the goal of building an optimal squad.
