The event took place solemnly in the presence of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon and representatives of leaders and businesses of the two countries.
The new flight route marks an important milestone in the relationship between the two countries, in the context of the two sides celebrating the 50th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations, 5 years of implementing the Strategic Partnership, and the two countries have just officially upgraded their relationship to Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
At the previous talks, the two Prime Ministers agreed to encourage airlines of the two countries to open direct flights connecting the two countries to further increase people-to-people exchanges, economic cooperation, and tourism.
The New Zealand Prime Minister affirmed that his country is very interested in deepening the close relationship with Vietnam; New Zealand is becoming closer to Vietnam and ASEAN than ever before and wishes to promote the connection between the people of the two countries.

Vietjet's Ho Chi Minh City - Auckland route is expected to open in September 2025 with a frequency of 4 round trips per week, using a modern fleet, contributing to promoting trade, tourism and cultural exchange between the two countries.
