Advantages for Thanh Hoa to develop sports

Strong sporting tradition:   Thanh Hoa is a locality with a tradition of leading the country in mass sports and high-performance sports at the national and international levels. This has been confirmed by the world record-breaking achievement of the late shooter Tran Oanh in shooting in July 1962 in Plzen (former Czechoslovakia). He was recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) as the best athlete of the 20th century of Vietnam in 2000. His achievements are the important basis and foundation for Thanh Hoa sports to develop and grow together with the country's sports over the past half century.

Through many ups and downs and difficulties, Thanh Hoa sports has always maintained its position and tradition. In particular, through the 3 recent National Sports Congresses (7th - 2014, 8th - 2018 and 9th - 2022), Thanh Hoa Sports has excellently held the 4th position at the Congresses; is a locality in the top of the country in terms of the number of gold, silver and bronze medals won at domestic and international sports competitions, affirming Thanh Hoa's position and contribution to Vietnamese Sports. This is a condition to create a solid foundation for the development and training of high-quality athletes.

Natural resources:   Thanh Hoa possesses natural advantages such as terrain and climate suitable for many sports. This land can develop water-related sports such as: rowing, swimming, diving, as well as indoor sports. Diverse terrain and favorable climate are factors that create ideal conditions for training and organizing sports events. Thanh Hoa has many scenic spots, sea and mountainous areas to organize adventure sports and outdoor sports. In addition, in the North Central and Central Coast regions, Thanh Hoa has a particularly important strategic position, connecting the Region with the Red River Delta and the Northwestern provinces. In order to promote regional connectivity and create a spillover effect for economic growth, Resolution No. 58 dated August 5, 2020 of the Politburo has identified the goal of building Thanh Hoa into a rich, beautiful, civilized and modern province by 2030; one of the major centers of the North Central region and the whole country in energy industry and processing and manufacturing; large-scale agriculture, high added value; logistics services, tourism, education and training, specialized healthcare and culture, sports; a new growth pole together with Hanoi, Hai Phong, Quang Ninh forming a development quadrangle in the North of the country.

Thanh Hoa focuses on investing in sports facilities, including the provincial stadium.

Infrastructure is being invested heavily: Thanh Hoa is gradually standardizing technical facilities, equipment, modern sports training and competition tools to meet the training, coaching and competition requirements of athletes. Currently, provincial sports facilities include: 01 Stadium; 01 Gymnasium with 2,500 seats; 02 gyms, 02 swimming pools (01 pool 50*25m; 01 covered pool 10*25m), 01 Shooting Range (21 shooting platforms), 01 5-storey building; 01 11-storey building; 02 tennis courts. In addition, the planning for the development of provincial sports facilities and the North Central Province Sports Complex has been approved. Thanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee issued Plan No. 72/KH-UBND dated March 26, 2023 on the Plan to implement the Thanh Hoa Provincial Planning for the period 2021 - 2030, with a vision to 2045, in which, Sports facilities include: "Completing the 30,000-seat Central Stadium; building the Thanh Hoa Athletes Training Center (North Central scale); Provincial Sports Complex, Thanh Hoa Football Training Center and District Sports Centers. Each district, town and city has 3/3 basic sports facilities and other sports facilities. Developing 13 Golf courses associated with the development of resort tourism areas, high-class ecological urban areas and some other locations with suitable conditions".

Attention and support of provincial leaders:   Recognizing the significance and importance of sports for the development of society, the Resolution of the 19th Thanh Hoa Provincial Party Congress, term 2020 - 2025 affirmed: "Strongly develop culture and sports, creating a foundation for Thanh Hoa to become one of the major centers of culture and sports in the region and the whole country... Develop and implement the Project on developing physical education and sports in Thanh Hoa province, prioritizing high-performance sports with strengths". In the past time, Thanh Hoa has issued many policies to support sports activities in general and athlete training in particular such as: Decision No. 4791/QD-UBND dated December 31, 2022 of the Provincial People's Committee on approving the Project "Developing physical education and sports in Thanh Hoa province to 2030, with a vision to 2045"; Plan No. 146/KH-UBND dated June 2, 2023 of the Provincial People's Committee on implementing the Project on Developing Physical Training and Sports in Thanh Hoa Province to 2030, with a vision to 2045, for the period 2023 - 2025; Plan No. 15/KH-UBND dated January 10, 2024 on building a force of athletes to participate in the 10th National Sports Congress in 2026; Plan No. 190-KH/TU dated March 15, 2024 of the Provincial Party Standing Committee on implementing Conclusion No. 70-KL/TW of the Politburo "On developing physical training and sports in the new period".

There is a lot of potential for sports development.

Abundant human resources:   Thanh Hoa has a large population, ranked 3rd in the country, in which the youth force accounts for a large proportion, creating a very significant human resource for the selection and training of athletes, making it possible to detect and nurture sports talents early. The high proportion of youth brings advantages in the supply of athletes for different sports, thereby enriching sports teams. Having a large number of youth will facilitate the implementation of programs to detect and nurture sports talents widely in schools and communities, thereby detecting outstanding sports talents early. When there are many potential candidates, the competition between athletes will be higher, thereby motivating them to develop and improve their personal level. This is especially important in finding excellent athletes who are capable of participating and winning prizes in national and international tournaments.

Cooperation and connection:   In recent years, Thanh Hoa has continuously strengthened and promoted cooperation with national and international sports centers. This not only helps to share experiences and learn from successful models, but also creates opportunities for Thanh Hoa athletes to participate in training and competing in a more developed environment. With its available advantages and potential, Thanh Hoa can completely become a key national athlete training center, contributing positively to the development of the country's sports.

Exploiting the advantages well will not only make Thanh Hoa a key national athlete training center but also contribute to completing the general goal of the sports industry, which is "High-performance sports maintained in the top 3 at the SEA Games and in the top 20 at the ASIAD; in which striving to achieve from 05 to 07 gold medals at the ASIAD, having medals at the Olympics and Paralympics, men's football in the top 10 in Asia and women's football in the top 8 in Asia" as set out in the Strategy for developing Vietnam's physical education and sports to 2030, with a vision to 2045.
