
Recently, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment announced the results of the "Project for comprehensive mineral survey and completion of 1/50,000 scale geological map of the Northwest region to serve the planning of sustainable socio-economic development (Northwest Project)".
Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Environment Tran Quy Kien said that after nearly 8 years of implementation, the Northwest Project has completed a geological and mineral map at a scale of 1:50,000 on 13,381 km, covering the Northwest region.
The project discovered 110 mineral deposits of 25 precious and important minerals.
Notably, among the newly discovered metal mines, there are 40 gold mines with a total level 333 resource of more than 29.8 tons of gold. In addition, at a copper mine in Lao Cai province, research units also discovered minerals associated with gold, with reserves of about 420 kg of gold.
The Northwest is not only a strategic border region of the country but also a rich and diverse source of mineral resources, Deputy Minister Tran Quy Kien emphasized.
Accordingly, he requested that specialized agencies, local leaders and enterprises continue to coordinate closely, apply information technology and digital transformation in mineral resource management. At the same time, improve monitoring capacity, promptly detect and prevent illegal mining activities, and protect natural resources.
110 mines of 25 types of precious and important minerals newly discovered during the project implementation will be a significant and important source of mineral materials for industries and localities in socio-economic development if exploited, processed and used in the coming time.
