On the occasion of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh's attendance at the World Climate Action Summit within the framework of the 28th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28), on the morning of December 2, in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Dang Quoc Khanh and Ms. Mariam Almheiri, UAE Minister of Environment and Climate Change, had a working session and signed a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in the field of environment and climate change.
Minister Dang Quoc Khanh congratulated Minister Mariam Almheiri and the people of the United Arab Emirates on the occasion of the 52nd National Day with great achievements in socio-economic development.
Minister Dang Quoc Khanh and Minister Mariam Almheiri signed a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation.
Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Dang Quoc Khanh congratulated and appreciated the UAE's efforts in hosting the COP28 Conference with the participation of heads of state, heads of government of countries as well as nearly 70 thousand delegates.
The Minister affirmed that the efforts to successfully organize the COP28 Conference demonstrate the UAE's sense of responsibility in solving global issues such as climate change.
The Minister emphasized that since the COP26 Conference, Vietnam has always been active and proactive in implementing commitments, implementing many solutions to adapt to climate change and reduce greenhouse gas emissions, thereby contributing to the common global efforts.
The Minister also shared that COP28 is an opportunity for countries to demonstrate solidarity and responsibility to solve one of humanity's greatest challenges.
Sharing the comments of Minister Dang Quoc Khanh, Minister Mariam Almheiri said that at COP28, as Chair, the UAE has put forward many important initiatives on climate change response and is pleased to know that Vietnam has supported and actively participated in initiatives initiated by the UAE.
Regarding the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation, Minister Mariam Almeiri emphasized that this will be the basis for the two Ministries to carry out cooperation activities on climate change response and environmental pollution resolution.
The Memorandum of Cooperation will be the basis for the two Ministries to carry out cooperation activities in responding to climate change and solving environmental pollution problems.
Minister Dang Quoc Khanh suggested that in the coming time, the two sides will continue to concretize the content of the Memorandum of Understanding into specific actions, with substantive results and clear evaluation criteria to implement the signed agreement, for the benefit of the people of the two countries, as well as for the common goal of the world.
The Minister believes that the signed Memorandum of Understanding will contribute to promoting cooperation on environment and climate change between the two Ministries, creating the premise for more in-depth and closer cooperation activities to maximize the resources of each country in the field of natural resources and environment.
According to the content of the Memorandum of Understanding, the two Ministries will focus on cooperation in climate change mitigation and adaptation, biodiversity conservation; other potential areas of cooperation will be studied and implemented in the coming time./.
