After two days of working with a spirit of frankness, positivity, enthusiasm and high responsibility, the Vietnamese delegation concluded the session to defend the report of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) at the United Nations headquarters in Geneva (Switzerland) on March 7.

Sharing a brief overview of the report defense session, Deputy Minister of Home Affairs Nguyen Van Hoi, Head of the Vietnamese Interdisciplinary Working Group, said that after two days of working with a spirit of frankness, positivity, enthusiasm and high responsibility, the Vietnamese delegation received over 30 comments from committee members and members of the national working group.
Many opinions acknowledge that Vietnam has achieved many achievements after 10 years of ratifying and implementing the CRPD Convention in all areas such as building institutions, policies, issuing action programs and projects to ensure the rights of people with disabilities as prescribed by the convention; along with the successful implementation of the millennium goals, poverty reduction, the field of caring for people with disabilities has also become a bright spot in the region and the social sector.
According to Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Hoi, through the comments of the Committee, Vietnam has learned and clearly recognized its achievements and difficulties. Thereby, Vietnam can summarize and evaluate the implementation plan of the CRPD, laws, policies, programs and projects to support people with disabilities in the past; build an action plan for the period 2026-2030 with a vision to 2045, raising it to a new level along with the implementation of the country's rising era.
The Deputy Minister shared: “After this report defense session, as an active member implementing the CRPD Convention, Vietnam hopes to receive technical support from the United Nations Committee of Experts and development partners to continue promoting actions on inclusive development for people with disabilities; strengthening the development of standards on comprehensive and inclusive development for people with disabilities; perfecting policies and laws; and building capacity for officials and employees in this field."
In addition, Vietnam also requested the United Nations, countries, and development partners to increase support and pay attention to transferring new technologies to help Vietnamese people with disabilities have more opportunities to conveniently access advances in healthcare, education, access to transportation, sports, culture, information technology, artificial intelligence (AI), etc., as well as to address challenges facing people with disabilities from global issues such as climate change, migration, digital transformation, etc.
Thanking the United Nations Committee on Persons with Disabilities for inviting him to attend the meeting, Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Hoi affirmed that this was an opportunity for Vietnam to directly discuss and share the results of implementing the CRPD Convention.
He also expressed his gratitude to the interdisciplinary delegation and the Permanent Mission of Vietnam in Geneva, and emphasized his belief that the objective and constructive assessments and feasible suggestions from the Committee will be an important source of reference, contributing to promoting Vietnam's continued commitment to protecting and promoting the rights of persons with disabilities.
