Mandatory trend when participating in FTAs
The story of global consumers shifting towards green fashion choices is no longer new. In particular, after the pandemic, consumers began to pay more attention to environmental and health issues. Many brands have been shifting to production and use of green materials and sustainable materials in their products.
In recent shares, Mr. Vu Duc Giang, Chairman of the Vietnam Textile and Apparel Association (VITAS), has repeatedly emphasized that: Vietnam is participating in many new generation Free Trade Agreements (FTAs), but according to these FTAs, our textile and garment products will have to meet stricter standards, including green standards set by importers.
Mr. Giang cited: In the commitments of new-generation free trade agreements such as the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) or the Vietnam - EU Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA), the viewpoint on green use and recycling is stated, and these are the requirements that brands require Vietnamese manufacturers to adapt to. According to Mr. Giang, currently, leading Vietnamese enterprises have had to accept the "rules of the game" set by importing countries to maintain and retain market share.
Sharing the same view, Ms. Vu Kim Hanh - President of the Association of High-Quality Vietnamese Goods Enterprises - said: Green fashion and sustainable fashion are part of the general trend of the world, from production, design to distribution and consumption have become a chain of sustainable economy.
However, according to Ms. Hanh, green fashion is still quite new in Vietnam. Vietnam is living in a mainstream fast fashion while in Europe, green, sustainable fashion is no longer a pioneer, it is the main trend. "I think in Vietnam, we still have to promote green, sustainable content a lot," Ms. Hanh said.
Ms. Hanh believes that fashion using green, sustainable materials helps protect the environment, save money for the economy, fight waste, fight garbage, etc. However, there are not many pioneers in this industry. Pioneers in this activity must have faith and persistent investment.

Keeping pace to bring Vietnamese green fashion to the world
That does not mean that businesses in the Vietnamese fashion industry have not kept up with world trends because in reality, many businesses are following consumer tastes.
According to VITAS statistics, in addition to large enterprises such as May Viet Tien, May 10, May Bao Minh, Dong Tien, Thanh Cong, etc., there are also many medium-sized enterprises such as Faslink, Tsafari, Trung Quy, VitaJean, etc. following this trend and initially "reaping" certain successes. Accordingly, thanks to timely "greening", these enterprises have had quite stable orders in the context of reduced demand in the markets in the first months of this year.
Sharing at the discussion on “Pioneers of Vietnamese green fashion”, organized by the Association of High-quality Vietnamese Goods Enterprises and related parties recently in Ho Chi Minh City, Mr. Vo Thanh Phuoc - Head of Faslink Product Development Department said: Faslink has been supplying raw materials for green fashion and sustainable fashion to the market for more than 10 years.
According to Mr. Phuoc, in the Vietnamese market, Faslink has many customers who are large corporations and enterprises, of which the best-selling line is the men's office product line. "We currently have more than 40 domestic fashion brands to supply to businesses. Product materials are diverse, from plastic bottles, coffee grounds, lotus fiber fabric, mint fiber fabric, oyster shells..." - Mr. Phuoc said.
Consumers experience green fashion products |
It is known that in mid-September 2023, during London Fashion Week 2023, Faslink and Tsafari brought green fashion products with unique designs to introduce at the event and attracted the attention of world fashionistas.
At this presentation, Faslink collaborated with the fashion brand Tsafari to introduce collections using lotus fiber materials. This type of fiber is highly appreciated for its comfort, coolness... especially because it contains collagen to help moisturize the skin and create a comfortable feeling when used.
Designer Ho Tran Da Thao, owner of the Tsafari fashion brand, who designs the company's collections at London Fashion Week, said: The products my company brings to London are cut to suit the customers of each brand such as Owen, Faslink. We not only take photos and perform at events but also on the streets of London, the world's fashion capital, to promote. "We pay attention to the flow of information from analysts and industry experts around the world about our product lines, so we know if we are suitable to step out into the world," Ms. Thao informed.
