“With multimodal logistics solutions applying technological advances and sustainable development along with the ability to connect regional supply chains, Vietnam SuperPortTM will strongly promote cross-border e-commerce in Vietnam,” Dr. Yap Kwong Weng, CEO of Vietnam SuperPortTM shared at the 2024 E-commerce Development and Connectivity Forum held on November 26 at the Hanoi Museum.

The event focused on the potential, development opportunities as well as solutions to support businesses participating in the cross-border e-commerce sector. At the forum, the leaders of Vietnam SuperPort TM shared about the comprehensive logistics solution to help Vietnamese businesses as well as the China - ASEAN region participate more deeply in the cross-border e-commerce market.

Opportunities and challenges for logistics businesses

In 2023, total revenue from transactions between businesses and consumers on e-commerce platforms registered in Vietnam will reach about 498.9 trillion VND. Of which, the total revenue of the five major e-commerce platforms Shopee, Lazada, Tiki, Sendo and Tiktok shop will reach 233.2 trillion VND, an increase of 53.4% compared to 2022, according to e-commerce data mining platform Metric. According to Deloitte's analysis, Vietnam belongs to the group of countries with a developing e-commerce market with steady growth potential. However, according to experts, the biggest challenge for Vietnamese businesses is high logistics costs as well as the logistics system supporting cross-border e-commerce. "Cross-border e-commerce requires a transparent and secure logistics system to ensure smooth transportation and transaction processes. In addition, the ability to connect domestic and international supply centers is also a priority issue that needs to be solved. In particular, in the context of increasingly strict regulations on greening the supply chain from production to consumers, the application of sustainable development solutions in logistics also needs special attention," said Dr. Yap.

Promoting e-commerce across Asia

Located at the heart of the Northern Economic Corridor, Vietnam SuperPort TM directly connects more than 20 industrial parks to major seaports and airports, extending to Yunnan and Kunming, China. The project also serves as a strategic link in the ASEAN Smart Logistics Network (ASLN), connecting Vietnam with China and ASEAN countries. In addition, with nearly 70 years of experience in logistics from YCH Group, Vietnam SuperPort TM also takes advantage of connections to global supply centers across Asia. According to Dr. Yap, the ability to connect across Asia with a multimodal approach, integrating road, air, rail and sea in one destination; allows businesses to access supply chain solutions across the region and flexibly choose the most cost-effective and suitable transportation method for their needs.

Application of technological advances and sustainable development

Previously, at the Vietnam Innovation Day 2024, this enterprise announced a comprehensive digital transformation roadmap to increase the efficiency and sustainability of the supply chain through the application of technological advances, especially artificial intelligence. Specifically, Vietnam SuperPort TM will cooperate with YCH Group to develop AI applications in automation, warehouse operation robots and transportation management solutions. These superior technologies will improve operational efficiency, speed up order progress and improve inventory control .

“The digital ecosystem integrates AI-based warehouse management and freight forwarding software to track inventory in real time, predict demand, and measure operational performance. It will also enhance cargo security and help businesses come up with optimal transportation and business plans,” Dr. Yap added .

Recently, Dr. Yap also revealed the launch of an AI-powered online logistics marketplace developed by Vietnam SuperPort™ and leading global partners. The platform is designed to connect small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), financial institutions, and logistics service providers worldwide, ensuring transparency and facilitating access to capital for businesses. In addition, to support the goal of becoming the first zero-emission logistics hub in Southeast Asia by 2040, Vietnam SuperPort™ will also develop an ESG management system by applying blockchain technology to track carbon emissions.
