Vietnam ranked in the world's top 5 in January, earning nearly 1.5 billion USD
Information from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development shows that the export turnover of wood and wood products in 2023 will reach 13.4 billion USD, down 16.2% compared to 2022. This is the first year that Vietnam's strength is in the Top 5 in the world, recording negative growth after maintaining growth momentum over the past 2 decades, with export turnover increasing from 219 million USD in 2000 to 15.8 billion USD in 2022.

In January this year, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Phung Duc Tien said that the market had recovered well, with all export items increasing dramatically. Of which, wood and wood products exports earned 1.49 billion USD, up 72.5% over the same period last year.
In the agricultural sector, wood and wood products are also the only items with export turnover exceeding 1 billion USD in just 1 month and accounting for 29% of the total export turnover of the entire agricultural sector.
Currently, the US, China, Japan and South Korea are the four main export markets of the Vietnamese wood industry. In 2023, these markets will account for 85% of the total export turnover of this industry in our country.
The export turnover of the wood industry shows signs of recovery from the last months of 2023. However, facing market difficulties when conflicts between countries become complicated and prolonged, affecting business activities of enterprises.
Agricultural exports flourish at the beginning of the year
In 2024, customers from traditional markets will maintain and even increase orders compared to the previous year. Up to now, the company has filled export orders in the first 6 months of the year. The most positive highlight is that recently, the company won a bid to export rice to Indonesia with more than 60,000 tons of rice out of a total of 500,000 tons.
According to calculations from the rice association, this year, Vietnam can completely export over 8 million tons of rice while still ensuring food security.
Besides rice, durian is also a product. It is forecasted that frozen durian export turnover will increase by 30% in 2024.
Other specialty fruits such as mango, banana, dragon fruit, fresh coconut... also received good news when there were many orders in the first month of the new year to go to China, the United States, Australia...
Rubber exports in January decreased in volume and value
The Import-Export Department (Ministry of Industry and Trade) cited statistics from the General Department of Customs, saying that it is estimated that Vietnam's rubber exports in January 2024 reached about 260 thousand tons, worth 365 million USD, down 3.3% in volume and 2.4% in value compared to December 2023; and up 92.6% in volume and 99.8% in value compared to January 2023.
The average rubber export price is at 1,404 USD/ton, up 0.9% compared to December 2023 and up 3.7% compared to January 2023.

In 2023, Vietnam exported 2.14 million tons of rubber, worth 2.89 billion USD, down 0.1% in volume and 12.8% in value compared to 2022. In particular, the main types of exported rubber are mixed natural rubber and synthetic rubber (HS 400280), Latex, SVR 10, SVR 3L, SVR CV60, RSS3, SVR 20...
Of which, natural rubber and synthetic rubber mixture (HS 400280) is still the most exported item, accounting for 67.57% in volume and 68.98% in value of the country's total rubber exports, reaching over 1.44 million tons, worth 1.99 billion USD, up 10.2% in volume, but down 1.8% in value compared to 2022.
Of which, exports to China account for 99.81% in volume and 99.67% in value in the total mixture of natural rubber and synthetic rubber of the whole country.
Seafood exports earned 730 million USD in the first month of the year
According to the General Department of Customs, it is estimated that in January 2024, Vietnam's seafood exports will reach 730 million USD, an increase of 60.8% over the same period in 2023 because January 2023 coincides with the Lunar New Year holiday.
In general, Vietnam's seafood exports have shown signs of recovery since the end of 2023 and are likely to increase again in 2024, especially in the second half of the year. In particular, exports of two key seafood products, shrimp and tra and basa fish, will recover after a sharp decline in 2023.

According to the forecast of the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP), in 2024, Vietnam's shrimp exports will increase by 10-15% compared to 2023, especially in the last 6 months of the year, when inflationary pressure cools down, inventories at importers decrease, and shrimp prices increase again.
While the pangasius industry aims to strive for a farming area of 5,700 hectares, commercial pangasius output of about 1.7 million tons, and the export value of pangasius expected to reach 2 billion USD.
Vietnam's pepper exports in January increased sharply
According to data from the Import-Export Department (Ministry of Industry and Trade), it is estimated that Vietnam's pepper exports in January 2024 reached 20 thousand tons, worth 79 million USD, down 1.4% in volume, but up 1.9% in value compared to December 2023; compared to January 2023, it increased by 60.2% in volume and 83.9% in value.

Vietnam's average pepper export price in January 2024 is estimated at 3,953 USD/ton, up 3.4% compared to December 2023 and up 14.8% compared to January 2023.
In terms of export type structure, in 2023, Vietnam mainly exported black pepper, accounting for 69.51% of the total volume and 70.67% of the total pepper export turnover of the country in 2023. Therefore, the growth of black pepper exports has had a positive impact on the whole industry.
Statistics from the General Department of Customs show that in 2023, black pepper exports will reach 184.81 thousand tons, worth 643.46 million USD, up 14.4% in volume and 1.0% in value compared to 2022.
In 2023, Vietnam exported black pepper to more than 100 countries and territories around the world. In particular, Vietnam's traditional black pepper export markets include: China, the United States, India, the United Arab Emirates, the Philippines...
Meanwhile, ground black pepper exports in 2023 decreased by 17.2% in volume and 19.7% in value compared to 2022, reaching 25.45 thousand tons, worth 125.25 million USD. Traditional export markets for ground black pepper from our country include: the United States, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Japan, Australia, etc.
