With a total herd of over 26,000 dairy cows, each cow consumes 30kg of silage corn per day. Thus, 78 tons of silage corn are needed per day to supply the dairy cows, which is a huge advantage for the two localities of Moc Chau town and Van Ho district to develop biomass corn. By building production linkage models between enterprises, the state, and farmers, a sustainable value chain is being created, helping farmers improve production efficiency per unit area.
Entering the biomass corn growing season, Mr. Mua A Pao's family, as well as many other farmers in Van Ho district, took advantage of favorable weather to fertilize and sow seeds. Growing biomass corn does not require much care, and the price and output are stable, so this year, Mr. Pao's family has dedicated the entire area of more than 1 hectare to growing corn.
Mr. Mua A Pao - Ban Bo Nhang 2, Van Ho commune, Van Ho, Son La : Growing a crop of corn, one kilo can be sold for 8 thousand, calculating one ton is also a good price, so the life of the people here is stable, enough to eat, enough to wear and no longer have to worry about anything. With a stable output, my family and the people can rest assured to produce long term.
In Muong Sang ward, Moc Chau town, this year the ward aims to plant 124 hectares of biomass corn for 2 crops. Recently, implementing the signing of a contract to link raw material areas for growing biomass corn, Moc Chau Dairy Cow Breeding Joint Stock Company and the town's Agricultural Service Center went to the locality to train on cultivation, provide seeds and propagate the expansion of the area and commit to purchasing to help people feel secure in production.
Mr. Vi Trong Hoan - Muong Sang Ward, Moc Chau Town, Son La: Recently, I also represented the farmers' association to go to the training center and they also propagated that the company would stabilize prices for the people, so we are very assured that firstly, prices will be stable, secondly, they will propagate to the people about developing biomass corn two to three crops a year.
Currently, Moc Chau town and Van Ho district have signed an agreement and built a sustainable consumption linkage mechanism between farmers and Moc Chau Dairy Cow Breeding Joint Stock Company, creating sustainable biomass corn production raw material areas. The issue of product quality and raw material prices has been resolved through linkage contracts. New corn varieties have been planted by farmers, trained by agricultural extension officers to transfer techniques, and the linkage price signed by the Company is from 950 - 1,200 VND/kg, so people are assured to maintain and expand the biomass corn growing raw material areas.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoa - Vice Chairman of Moc Chau Town People's Committee, Son La: We are calculating how to ensure the improvement of biomass corn quality, increase output and thereby improve milk quality in the coming time. Therefore, in the past time, we have also organized 10 technical training courses for all households registering for biomass corn growing areas in the area.
Mr. Nguyen Tien Quang - Deputy General Director of Moc Chau Dairy Cow Breeding Joint Stock Company, Son La: To increase income/ha for corn growers, we are encouraging households to cultivate 2 crops, because for us, the herd of 27,000 cows, the output of 200,000 tons, but the reality of the locality of Moc Chau town, Van Ho only meets half of the demand. If the local economy is developed, it will be a sustainable link and ensure income for corn growers.
According to this year's plan, Van Ho district and Moc Chau town will assign communes and wards to plant more than 2,600 hectares, with an expected output of 142,000 tons of biomass corn. With close and systematic linkages from supervision and implementation from local authorities, the accompaniment of enterprises to farming households will create sustainable raw material areas, create jobs, increase income for people and increase the proportion of local agriculture and processing industry.
