Promoting Vietnamese enterprises to invest and do business in the Cambodian market

With the aim of promoting investment and business activities of Vietnamese enterprises in the Cambodian market, as well as strengthening economic cooperation between the two countries in the coming time, on April 2, the Embassy of Vietnam in the Kingdom of Cambodia and the Vietnam - Cambodia Business Association (VCBA) jointly organized the "Business Dialogue 2025" Forum. Vietnamese Ambassador to the Kingdom of Cambodia Nguyen Minh Vu chaired the conference.

According to VNA correspondent in Phnom Penh, attending the "Business Dialogue 2025" were Mr. Suon Sophal, Deputy Secretary General of the Investment Committee under the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC); Mr. Ho Sivyong, Envoy of the Royal Government of Cambodia, Director General of the General Department of Trade Support Services under the Ministry of Commerce of Cambodia; Oknha Leng Rithy, Chairman of VCBA, and about 150 delegates who are Vietnamese enterprises and enterprises of Vietnamese origin investing and doing business in the Cambodian market in the fields of finance, banking, insurance, telecommunications, agriculture , construction, interior design, restaurant catering services, transportation, logistics, import-export trade, healthcare, tourism, etc.

Also attending the dialogue were business delegations from Vietnam such as the business delegation of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Vietnam, the Association of Overseas Vietnamese Entrepreneurs (BAOOV), the Business Club of Nguyen Tat Thanh University, the Association of Construction and Building Materials of Ho Chi Minh City (SACA), and the Association of Enterprises of An Giang province.

Speaking at the event, Ambassador Nguyen Minh Vu said that the "Business Dialogue 2025" took place in the context of the traditional friendship and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Cambodia being increasingly consolidated and developed, which has always been of interest to senior leaders of the two countries. In particular, senior leaders of the two countries emphasized that economic cooperation is the focus that needs to be promoted from now until 2030, and President of the Cambodian People's Party (CPP) Samdech Techo Hun Sen also mentioned the complementary factors between the two economies, attaching importance to promoting economic connectivity for the common development interests of the two countries. In addition, Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet is also very interested in promoting the exploitation of potential and opportunities for investment, trade and tourism cooperation between the two countries. According to Ambassador Nguyen Minh Vu, this is a favorable condition for businesses and investors of the two countries to strengthen cooperation in specific economic fields in the coming time, striving to soon bring two-way trade turnover to 20 billion USD as desired by the two countries' senior leaders.

At the Forum, Ambassador Nguyen Minh Vu reviewed the achievements in economic and trade cooperation between Vietnam and Cambodia in recent times, in the context of complicated developments in the world situation. Vietnam is currently the 5th largest investor in Cambodia with a total registered capital of more than 2.94 billion USD in 215 projects. Investment and business activities of Vietnamese enterprises have contributed significantly to the development of the Cambodian economy, helping to solve employment for workers, contributing to the Cambodian state budget and doing a good job of social security in localities. Typical Vietnamese enterprises include Metfone, BIDC Bank, Angkor Milk, Thaco Agri... Cambodian leaders have also recognized and highly appreciated Vietnamese enterprises operating in this country.

Ambassador Nguyen Minh Vu said that the dialogue is an opportunity for businesses to update on incentives and investment opportunities in Cambodia, thereby promoting Vietnam - Cambodia trade cooperation, and at the same time grasp updated information on the relationship between the two countries and economic cooperation contents. Through the dialogue, businesses also understand more about the support and companionship work that the Embassy and VCBA have always paid attention to in the past, helping Vietnamese businesses and businesses of Vietnamese origin understand more about investment and business experiences in the Cambodian market.

Through this dialogue forum, the Embassy and VCBA will also record, collect and exchange recommendations and proposals from businesses to the authorities of the two countries for consideration and resolution to create a favorable investment and business environment for Vietnamese businesses and businesses of Vietnamese origin in Cambodia, with the hope of helping businesses invest and do business more effectively and expand their operations in this potential area.

With the aim of contributing to promoting Vietnam - Cambodia trade and economic development of the two countries, bringing a happy life to the people, VCBA Chairman Oknha Leng Rithy hopes that the dialogue will help businesses seize opportunities, understand policies and find suitable partners, connect businesses, create trade bridges and promote investment in potential areas. At the same time, businesses will also be updated with more useful information to have plans and development orientations for businesses in 2025 and the following years.

At the event, Mr. Ho Sivyong - Director General of the General Department of Trade Support Services (Ministry of Commerce of Cambodia) - expressed his belief that the event will play an important role in facilitating the participation of all parties, including the public and private sectors, to discuss, exchange views and share insights to strengthen trade relations. The Cambodian Ministry of Commerce official said that in the context of global trade instability and many other challenges, it is more important than ever for the two countries to strengthen cooperation and promote supply chain connectivity. By doing so, Vietnam and Cambodia can ensure mutual benefits for both countries and people, promoting greater prosperity and resilience.

According to Mr. Ho Sivyong, the Ministry of Commerce, as one of the Secretariats of the Royal Government of Cambodia, has been actively committed to promoting a more favorable business environment in the country by streamlining administrative processes, reducing unnecessary costs, and implementing automated systems in business registration, trademark registration, and issuance of certificates of origin, making efforts to effectively address business requests and concerns, further supporting the development and confidence of the private sector. He hoped that the conference would help the two sides connect and gain a deeper understanding of areas for cooperation. He called on businessmen and investors from both countries to make the most of this opportunity to expand their businesses and partnerships with the support of the two governments.

Within the framework of the “Business Dialogue 2025”, the representative of the Vietnamese Embassy in Cambodia announced and updated information on the recent cooperation situation between the two countries, noting the key points to promote economic cooperation between the two countries in 2025. Meanwhile, the representative of VCBA gave a speech outlining specific directions for activities in the coming time to support members in investment and business activities in the Cambodian market.

At the discussion sessions within the framework of the event, delegates shared successful lessons, as well as difficulties and solutions of Vietnamese enterprises and enterprises of Vietnamese origin investing and doing business in the Cambodian market. Among them, there are many large enterprises that have invested and done business for many years and have been successful in the Cambodian market such as Viettel Cambodia Company (Metfone), Bank for Investment and Development of Cambodia (BIDC), Angkor Milk Company, Chu Se Kampong Thom Rubber Company...

Representatives of private enterprises such as Dien Quang Group, Med 115 Polyclinic Phnom Penh Hospital, TCV Construction Company, Kim Sante Logistics and Supply Chain Management Company... also had exchanges and discussions about lessons and difficulties when doing business in the market of the country of pagodas. Business leaders highlighted a number of issues that need to be resolved related to human resources, procedures, as well as the need to create a network connecting Vietnamese enterprises and investors in Cambodia to be able to closely connect, update information quickly, and effectively remove obstacles...

In his closing speech at the forum, Ambassador Nguyen Minh Vu affirmed that both Vietnam and Cambodia are entering a new phase of development. Vietnam is entering an era of national development towards prosperity and wealth; Cambodia is entering a period of accelerating economic development towards becoming an upper middle-income country by 2030. The Ambassador emphasized: "Promoting comprehensive cooperation, especially economic cooperation between Vietnam and Cambodia, will contribute to helping the two countries achieve the above goals and is a key task of the Embassy in the coming time, in which the role of the business communities of the two countries is very important".

The Business Dialogue is an annual forum organized by the Embassy of Vietnam in the Kingdom of Cambodia to update information on cooperation in various fields, especially investment, trade and tourism between the two countries; at the same time, it is also a useful forum for businesses to share investment and business experiences in Cambodia, thereby contributing to promoting investment and business activities of Vietnamese enterprises in the Cambodian market, as well as strengthening economic cooperation between the two neighboring countries.
