Overnight VND trading interest rates slightly decreased in the last week of March

The State Bank of Vietnam has just provided information on the foreign exchange market and interbank market in the week from March 24 to 28, 2025, stating that the average overnight VND trading interest rate tends to decrease slightly.

Specifically, according to reports from credit institutions and foreign bank branches, the transaction turnover in the interbank market in VND during the period reached approximately VND 2,471,825 billion, an average of VND 494,365 billion/day, an increase of VND 25,778 billion/day compared to the previous week. The transaction turnover in USD converted to VND during the week reached approximately VND 539,441 billion, an average of VND 107,888 billion/day, a decrease of VND 5,575 billion/day compared to the previous week.

By maturity, VND transactions mainly focus on overnight terms (85% of total VND transaction turnover) and 1-week terms (9% of total VND transaction turnover). For USD transactions, the terms with the largest turnover are overnight and 1-week terms with proportions of 86% and 9% respectively.

Interest rates in VND tended to decrease slightly in the overnight term and increase in most of the remaining terms compared to last week. Specifically, the average interest rate for the overnight term decreased by 0.05%/year to 4.11%/year. In contrast, the average interest rates for the 1-week and 1-month terms increased by 0.18%/year and 0.15%/year to 4.43%/year and 4.56%/year, respectively.

As for USD transactions, the average interest rate tends to fluctuate in different directions in some key terms compared to last week. Specifically, the average overnight interest rate remained unchanged compared to last week and remained at 4.30%/year, the 1-week interest rate increased slightly by 0.01%/year to 4.33%/year, while the 1-month interest rate decreased by 0.04%/year to 4.39%/year.
