According to statistics from the Ministry of Education and Training as of last night (August 27), 673,586 candidates nationwide passed the first round of university admissions, but the number of candidates who confirmed their enrollment on the system was 551,479, reaching 81.87%. Thus, 122,107 candidates nationwide refused to pass the first round of university admissions.
Therefore, candidates who have not passed the first round of admission or have passed but not confirmed their enrollment still have a chance in the additional admission round.
The information was shared in an online television consultation program with the theme "Opportunities for candidates who have not passed the first round" produced by Thanh Nien Newspaper on the afternoon of August 27. The program was broadcast online at: thanhnien.vn , Facebook fanpage, YouTube channel, TikTok Thanh Nien Newspaper.
N MANY CAUSES
Sharing in the program, Dr. Vo Thanh Hai, Vice Principal of Duy Tan University, said that after 5:00 p.m. on August 27, PhDs who passed the first round of admission but did not confirm their admission online on the Ministry of Education and Training's system were considered to have refused admission.

Speaking more about the admission confirmation rate, Dr. Vo Thanh Hai said that the summary data on the situation of students confirming their admission this year was compiled and announced by the Ministry of Education and Training after the end of the admission confirmation period. However, data from previous years showed that the rate of students nationwide enrolling on the Ministry of Education and Training's system only reached about 80 - 85% of the total number of admitted students. Mr. Hai analyzed: "Every year, there is always a certain percentage of students who do not confirm their admission on the system even though they are admitted. There are many different reasons, including the possibility that some students who have been admitted to their desired program do not really like it and so do not enroll."
Secrets to applying for additional admission when not admitted to first admission
In addition, Dr. Hai said that there are candidates who only find out about university tuition fees after being admitted. Not only tuition fees, students also need a living allowance to be able to attend university. Meanwhile, the policy of allowing students to borrow 4 million VND/month can only be implemented after the candidate has become a university student. However, if they do not confirm their admission for financial reasons, candidates need to contact the universities directly to seek support. Currently, universities have many financial support programs for students in difficulty.
Master PHAM DOAN NGUYEN (Vice Principal of University of Economics and Finance, Ho Chi Minh City)
Master Pham Doan Nguyen, Vice Principal of Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics and Finance, said that the rate of confirmation and admission procedures up to this point has reached about 80%. Similarly, Nguyen Tat Thanh University also recorded the rate of students confirming their admission at the school reaching 80 - 85% of the total number of admitted students. Master Truong Quang Tri, Deputy Head of Student Affairs of the school, noted that students with financial difficulties and concerns about admission should boldly contact the schools. Universities have policies on scholarships and financial support for new students.
CONSIDER RE-TAKING THE EXAM NEXT YEAR
Many questions sent to the program expressed concerns about choosing a major for additional admission. There were cases where people refused to confirm their admission because they were not accepted into a major they wanted, but at the additional admission stage, they were more concerned because there were not many majors left. Some candidates were even hesitant to wait another year to take the exam and re-apply.
In response to these concerns, Dr. Vo Thanh Hai said that the supplementary admission round is an opportunity for candidates who have not been admitted to their desired program in the first round. However, there are not many opportunities for supplementary admission, so candidates need to consider their options carefully. The reason is that not many schools are recruiting in the supplementary round, the quota is not much, and the supplementary admission score is at least equal to the first round or higher.
Advice for those who are still hesitant, Dr. Hai said: "Teachers should not wait another year to retake the exam and re-examine because in 2025, a completely new study and exam program will begin. Don't think that next year everything will be more favorable than this year, not to mention that after a year, studying may be even more difficult. Students need to consider carefully to decide in this additional admission round". However, Dr. Hai still mentioned exceptions when analyzing: "Whether to wait until next year to retake the exam depends on the specific case. In the case of students with many difficult circumstances, they may have to temporarily stop studying for a year to work and earn money to study next year. In this case, students should still complete the admission procedures and request to reserve instead of dropping out and retaking the exam next year".
By 5:00 p.m. yesterday, August 27, candidates admitted in the first round completed confirming their admission online on the Ministry of Education and Training's system.
DO NOT CONSIDER RANDOMLY ADMISSION, RANDOMLY ADMISSION
Master Pham Doan Nguyen advised: "Candidates need to imagine the additional admission process as the first round, choosing a major needs to be considered based on interests, abilities, and suitability". Master Nguyen emphasized: "Candidates should not randomly apply, randomly accept admission, should not try all means to be admitted to a university. Instead, if they are not qualified to enter university, candidates can choose to study at college, can choose another direction. Should not be admitted to university at all costs to pay the high price of being admitted to an unwanted profession".
In the program, Dr. Vo Thanh Hai also gave specific advice for each case in this period. For students who have not been admitted in the first round, when looking for additional wishes, students only need to care about which school is recruiting for their favorite major. In the case of students who have been admitted but not in the expected major, if the major they have been admitted to is close to their favorite major, they should boldly enroll. As for students who have been admitted to a major that is not in the expected major, Dr. Hai said that students need to change their perspective. "Because now, when businesses interview candidates, the first factor they care about is the actual working capacity of that candidate," Mr. Hai added.
What is the difference between the additional round and the first round?
In response to this concern of students, Dr. Vo Thanh Hai said that universities have calculated in their training plans for a school year so that students, whether admitted in the first or the next round, can study in the same round. In particular, statistics from previous years also show that students admitted in the supplementary round have a higher admission rate than in the first round.
Note when considering additional recruitment
According to Dr. Vo Thanh Hai, candidates applying for additional admissions need to pay attention to the specific regulations of each school. Each school has a different additional admissions deadline, and the admissions results are also conducted by each school and are usually within a very short period of time. Candidates need to follow specific information for each school, for example, Duy Tan University accepts applications for the last round until September 7. In addition, candidates need to note that the additional admission score is equal to the first standard score or higher. In the additional admissions round, candidates are not entitled to scholarship policies of 50 - 100%.
Master Truong Quang Tri said that Nguyen Tat Thanh University is considering additional admissions for many majors. When participating in the additional admissions, candidates should note that the score for receiving applications is equal to the standard score for the first round. For example, medical students consider high school graduation exam scores from 23 points, and dentistry - maxillofacial students require 22.5 points. "Candidates need to achieve this score to be eligible for admission. If the score is below this score, candidates are not eligible to participate in the additional admissions," Master Tri emphasized.
Meanwhile, Master Pham Doan Nguyen said that Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics and Finance does not consider additional admission based on high school graduation exam scores and Ho Chi Minh City National University's competency assessment exam scores. The school only considers additional admission based on high school academic results with the deadline for receiving applications until September 15. The school's additional admission quota is only around 10%. The application receiving score is equal to the first round's benchmark score, so the additional benchmark score will be equal to or higher than the first round.
