At the industry conference in September 2024, a representative of the Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs of Ho Chi Minh City said that although communication work on vocational education is carried out regularly and with focus, parents still want their children to study high school after graduating from junior high school, or study at university after graduating from high school.
Ho Chi Minh City has set a target of 70% of students entering public high schools, the remaining 30% of students often choose to study at non-public high schools or continuing education centers, students are not really interested in vocational education.
Homeroom teachers or career guidance teachers at secondary schools do not have enough information about vocational education to guide parents and students in choosing new directions. In particular, the 10th grade admission information system does not have the option to register for vocational education, in addition to the admission wishes according to regulations.
To make career orientation and streaming more effective, the representative of the Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs of Ho Chi Minh City proposed adding the fourth option. This is the option for students to register for suitable vocational training institutions in the area. Adding more options is necessary to give students more opportunities to choose new directions.
