The Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) plans to abolish early admission because this method only benefits weak students, while the original goal was for excellent students.

Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Thu Thuy, Director of the Department of Higher Education (Ministry of Education and Training), said that the Ministry will stop early admission because this method only benefits weak students and can easily cause confusion.
The early admission process that schools are implementing is mostly beneficial for weak students, as students with average or weak academic records can also apply and be admitted early to many schools.
Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Thu Thuy also said that the early admission methods have long been disadvantageous and unfair to students who do not have the conditions to participate in foreign language certification exams and competency assessments. Due to the incomplete data system, the Ministry of Education and Training accepts candidates using different certificates. Up to now, the system has been completed, fully meeting the university admission requirements in all methods.
With the current admission support system, even if candidates apply early, they still have to enter all their wishes into the system according to the general admission plan, after graduating from high school. In the end, candidates only pass one wish, and go to one school. Meanwhile, early admission costs a lot of resources for schools. Candidates also spend a lot of time and money to register their applications to schools, although that can partly solve the psychological pressure.
According to Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Thu Thuy, after receiving opinions from experts and teachers, it is expected that by the end of January or early February this year, the Admission Regulation Drafting Committee will submit to the leaders of the Ministry of Education and Training to cancel early admission.
The concept of early admission here means early in terms of time, admission before the high school graduation exam. In the general admission round after the high school graduation exam, schools can use all admission methods such as: considering academic records, considering graduation exam scores, considering separate exam scores...
Thus, with this adjustment, the Ministry of Education and Training only abolishes early admission. Universities still use the same admission methods as before, but the admission time is delayed to the general admission time of the Ministry of Education and Training.
Leveling the playing field for universities
In recent years, early admission has been quite competitive at top schools, however, there are also many schools that have very low entrance scores in these rounds. Many candidates with only 5 points/subject also passed the university entrance exam based on the school transcript method.
Experts are concerned that the admission of some universities based on transcripts with low admission scores could greatly affect the quality of training.
The draft university admission regulations for 2025 of the Ministry of Education and Training are being widely consulted with many new points, in which schools are only allowed to consider early admission for 20% of the quota.
Faced with some negative impacts of early admission, Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Dao Tung - Director of the Academy of Finance said that the 20% limit on enrollment quota is meaningless and that early admission should be boldly abolished to create a safe playground for all schools.
According to Mr. Tung, early admissions cause chaos in high schools. When schools compete for early admissions, 12th graders after Tet cannot concentrate on studying. Therefore, competition in universities should not cause chaos in high schools.
Dr. Le Anh Duc, Head of Training Management Department, National Economics University, supports the policy of eliminating early admission from 2025. In essence, it is to move the admission time to the time of announcing the high school graduation exam results.
According to Dr. Le Anh Duc, in addition to direct admission according to the regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training for candidates who have won national and international prizes, the admission methods in the entire system will only be considered after the results of the high school graduation exam are available. At that time, universities will be very convenient because they will have full information of candidates (graduation exam scores, academic records, priority subjects and regions), avoiding unfortunate errors in priority regions and priority subjects.
Recently, the Association of Vietnamese Universities and Colleges has recommended that the Ministry of Education and Training clarify the concept of "early admission" or change the concept to suit the nature of admission activities because most of these candidates have not graduated from high school in the school year when they participate in the admission process.
This candidate only meets the sufficient condition of reaching the threshold to ensure the quality of the university's entrance exam, but does not meet the necessary condition of graduating from high school according to the university's admission regulations. Clarifying this concept will avoid confusion for candidates, society and universities.
