Messi has no bodyguards at future MLS matches. |
"Although I was not allowed to enter the field, I still respect the decision of the authorities and understand the reasons behind it. However, I want to be able to cooperate with relevant organizations to improve security at stadiums in the US," said Messi's bodyguard.
In an interview with “House of Highlights,” Cheuko shared that during his 20 months working in MLS, he witnessed 16 incidents involving fans rushing onto the field. This, according to Cheuko, reflects a serious problem with security at Major League Soccer stadiums.
Cheuko had previously worked in Ligue 1 and the Champions League for seven years and had only encountered six incidents of fan violence. In MLS, the number of similar incidents was overwhelming.
Cheuko expressed his disappointment and wished to be able to help not only Messi but also the Inter Miami team and the entire CONCACAF region, to ensure greater safety for spectators and players.
Cheuko, who has been with Messi since he joined Inter Miami, said the move was a big change in the job. Fans had previously been used to the former US soldier walking along the touchline and blocking anyone who tried to get close to Messi, including children.
